Antler chews Has anyone used the Antler chews and are they safe? |
I have used them. My dogs initially liked them, then got bored and ignored them. I will not use them now because the vet dental office informed me that they could crack teeth. I stick to flexible nylabone for chews since my dogs cannot have bully sticks. |

Yes, there are medical reasons why my dogs cannot have bully sticks -- Barney has a history of two life threatening bouts of pancreatitis that occurred after he ate a superpremium canned dog food. He is on a very low fat home cooked diet for the rest of his life. Daisy has liver shunting and the protein content would make her very ill. Teddy has a sensitive tummy and throws them up and I've also had to retreive a wad of bully stick from his throat while he was choking because he really isn't that skilled with chewing. |
OK, thanks. So far mine haven't had any medical problems, so I guess I'll go ahead and let them chew them. I will keep an eye on them so they won't choke. Thank you! |
I have better luck with the antlers. They like the Himalayan Chews the very best of all. I still don't have good luck with either bully sticks or flossies. Sorry. |
Mine never even acknowledged the antler existed. I ended up sending it home with my son's jack russell terrier who thought it was great. |
Levi likes antlers and is actually even getting a new one for Christmas. He will chew on it if nothing better (like a bully stick) is laying around when he gets the urge to chew. He LOVES bully sticks though. |
Duke has no interest in antlers, but in all fairness as no interest in anything that is not a ball. Piper will chew on hers about 2 times a week, but prefers the bullies or himalayan chews. But she hasn't made much progress on the antler, while she can finish a bully pretty fast and a himalayan chew in a decent amount of time if I let her constantly chew on it. |
Ruuuunnnnnnnn rudolph, ruuuuuuunnnnnnnnnn! Sorry, it's late! |
I have three antlers that all of my dogs love. They dont stink and they last FOREVER. I also have never had my dogs crack their teeth on it or anything like that. I feel like they are safer because they can not be broken into small pieces and choked on. |
Thank you to everyone on your input about the antler chews. I may get a couple and see how they do. If they don't like them, then I just won't get any more and will go back to bully sticks or himalayan chews. Thanks again. |
Max did not like them much. Mickey loves them. Not sure where he hid it at. Neither is he-LOL They like the bully sticks or himalayan chews more. |
