Semi-annual Exam Sophie had her semi-annual check up today. Tomorrow she will be 10 months and weighed 3.9 lbs. today. Thought she would weigh a bit more. She had her bordetella and parvo vaccines, heartworm test, and nails clipped. I also found out today that she has a slight LP in her back, left leg. I've never noticed anything...no limping, pain, etc. The vet said there's nothing to be worried about right now, but that's easier said than done. She did say it could get worse the older she gets but no surgery unless it gets bad. So now I'm off to research this. If anyone has any info or advice, please send it my way. Thanks! |
Barbara there is lots of info on LP here on YT. I would do just as your vet suggested and not worry for now. Ruby was diagnosed with slight LP four years ago, and so far other than an occasional skip step (I'll notice one every few months) has no problems. I wouldn't let Sophie jump from furniture or steps. Did your vet discuss any joint supplements? Chances are she may never need surgery. |
Sammy has grade 1 LP. He takes glucosamine and Chondroiton. Also no jumping. I only have three steps to go outside but I carry him up and down. The vet showed me how to push back on the area. She guided my hand and I could feel it. Thank goodness he doesn't need surgery and hopefully your pup won't either. |
Barbara If you look at recent threads in sick and injured you'll see lots of threads. I recently told someone about my Daisy - she has two grade 4 luxating patellas and has had surgery on one and not the other. Take a look and that will ease your mind. No jumping for Sophie! |
Thank goodness we have no steps in the house or to go outside. She stays in mostly anyway as she is pee pad trained. She does jump up on the couch and my bed, which is low. How can I stop her from doing this? |
All of mine have some degree of LP. Cali has grade 4 in both and at 5 1/2 is doing ok. I use ramps to they don't jump off the furniture. Luckily my girls never learned how to jump up on furniture so they can only get up via ramps or stairs. I trained Nikki the elderly male I took in to use the ramp instead of jumping off the bed in one day. Hopefully Sophie will do just fine and never need treatment. |
