Scared, but looking for answers. . . kidney issues My heart was turned upside down yesterday when I took Mocha to the vet for his one year rabies shot and the vet told me his creatin levels were high. Knowing that creatin deals with the kidneys. The vet wanted to get a second opinion and sent the blood sample to a vet specialist for a second opinion. The results came back stating the same, high creatin levels. The vet is puzzled because Mocha has no sign or symptom of kidney issues and the urine analysis was better than great. Not sure what to think or how to feel. I feel so guilty, that its something I have done to cause this to my little boy. If any of you have ever had to deal with this, I need advice as to what to feed him and any other important info about kidneys. Please help, I'm so scared! |
What are you feeding him? We had several Maltese on another forum I belong to have elevated kidney values from high protein kibble, Acana and Evo, specifically. |
He eats Wellness Small Breed dry kibble and Wellness Just For Puppy wet food. Do you have a food that you would recommend? |

A specialist may want to put him on a prescription kidney diet depending on his findings, but I wouldn't change food now. |
No, we have not seen a specialist yet, all of this just happened in the past two days. I'll be sure to follow up with a specialist. I thank you so much for all your comments and suggestions. I really appreciate it, I just don't want to lose my little guy! |
I haven't experienced anything with this but I looked through some links and found this one that might provide you with some background data: Canine Kidney Failure (It does discuss more than just kidney failure) I like to familiarize myself with a subject so when the vet/doc starts discussing I can ask better questions. Maybe it will help. I wish your little dog well and hope that there may be some explanation that will be easy to treat. |
I had a 6 month old with congenital kidney failure and her BUN and Creatin were off the charts, but she had symptoms of clear urine and no odor. Also her urinalysis was really, really off. So hopefully, since he is having no symptoms it is something easy to treat. I would recommend seeing a nephrologist. |
