Hydrolized Protein VS Limited Ingredient Food Yes, folks, this is ONE more thread about itchy allergic dogs! I was hoping that Neo's skin problems were behind him, but it has come back with a vengence! He has lost most of his hair around his eyes and itches really bad under his arm pits. Actually, he itches all over. I took him to the vet on Friday and so its time to do the elimination diet again. To his credit, Doc didn't push any food on me, just gave me the option and info about Hill's z/d hydrolized protein food and what the pros were. I've used the d/d food before, but I want whats best for my boys. Doc also suggested that I could try a limited source diet, so I have been researching online for different brands. Since I have to travel to buy quality dog food, any suggestions would help. I am so tired for my little boy, and would like him to have some peace. Thanks in advance!!! |

I have heard that hydrolized proteins do assist in calming the immune system down. However, I have not tried proteins in that form as I home feed my little one who has the skin issues. I am not familiar with Neo's situation, so excuse me if I ask about the "coming back" you mentioned. Had they gone away for awhile, and then just returned? Had you changed his diet when or during the "itchy" comeback? Or has he been on a particular "novel" diet for a long period. Do you feed kibble only or do you feed raw as well? Has he been diagnosed with allergies due to food or environment? Sorry for the questions.... |
