Rescue baldness! So, I adopted a rescue from my local humane society This past spring. His age is estimated to be 7 years, and my groomer told me he probably came from a picky breeder, an assumption based his cropped ears. I suspect he is from a mill, considering his social skills. ANYHOO..... Cookie has very little and thin hair on the top of his head, with his scalp very visible. It's a bit like petting a baseball. I think he's looking much better in the time he's spent with me, but I would like to see some regrowth happening. I love looking at people's photo albums on his site, and I see a lot of other yorkies with such thick hair and scrunchie top knots... Cookie's hair isn't nearly enough to hold a scrunchie.... There's barely enough of a tuft to make a top knot with a flounce end. I am wondering if anyone is savvy to a diet or home remedy or supplement that would help promote hair regrowth? It takes a while for it to grow, but if you can get it into a topknot already, you're doing pretty good. He's adorable, and good for you for giving this little cookie a home. I wondering about your groomer though, she really should know that breeders don't crop Yorkies' ears. Terriers have upright pointy ears, and while occasionally some are born with oversized droopy ears, no one crops them, they just allow them to droop. Joey has silky hair on his head and I use Bio-Groom Spray Set Texturizer on his topknot; it thickens the hair up a bit. Usually, cotton coats have thicker hair, and silky coats have thinner hair, but it should be abundant with no scalp showing. If he was from a mill, I doubt if he had a very good diet, and it may take a while for his hair to show improvement, since hair growth occurs under the skin. |
That groomer did seem a bit odd. It's good to know I was right to not take her comments too seriously. :) Maybe it will be another year before I'll start to see more hair growing on his head... |
