Bumps on ears Has anyone's Yorkie ever experienced bumps on their ears. I went to the vet and he said it wasn't mange or anything like that, however, he didn't know what it was. What does my Mickey have? |
Does Mickey itch there? Or try to scratch the bumps much? Do you know if it's ear mites or cankers? Here's some info I found looking around the Net: --- Q: How do you know if your dog has mange? SAGE's Answer: The classic signs of mange are scaly, red, scabby skin lesions occurring pretty much anywhere on the body, usually pretty itchy but not always. There are two main types of mange, both are potentially contagious to other animals, with one type (Sarcoptic) being potentially contagious to people. A couple of good websites: http://www.canismajor.com/dog/mange1.html http://www.drpetra.com/Dogs/Demodex%...0in%20Dogs.htm Q: My dog has bumps on his skin, best way to explain is they look like bug or spider bites. Could you help me to know what it could be, or something I could try; do for him at home for the time being? SAGE's Answer: This could be any number of things -- flea bites, allergic reaction, bacterial skin infection, ringworm. It is generally safe to give a dog Benadryl for something like this but you should check with your vet first in case a different, more specific treatment is indicated. |
Yes, he itches The doctor said it's not mites or mange. Can is be some sort of fungus? |
If Mickey itches, I'd try to get some type of topical cream you can rub on there for him, one that's safe for Yorkies, of course! Start with that, and perhaps the itchiness and the bumps will go away. Has he had it a long time? |
thanks Yes, he's had this for about a week. Actually, he's been itching for a while, but the doc said there was nothing wrong. Just normal itching. This, however, is very strange. His right ear has actually begun to sag a bit. I hope it will return to it's normal upright position. Thanks for your help, by the way. Much appreciated. :) |

Sorry your baby has a problem. Don't know how much you trust your vet but if I didn't get a more difinitive answer I would seek another opinion. Toto only scratched once in a blue moon until we put her on this new carpet! Dr. Lucy gave her antihystimine and it's helping trememdously. Do you keep the hair on the upper third of his ears cut short? If that hair grows long it will pull the ears down and they may not pop back up. :( Hope you get some answers and he is better soon!! ;) |
How many "bumps" are we talking about here? If there are a LOT of bumps, then it must be some kind allergy or even a fungus. However, if it's only two or three, I would suspect a flea or tick bite. They definitly leave a bump. If you are protecting Mickey with Frontline, that might be the case as the fleas and ticks bite the dog, get the poison, and then drop off. That's one of the reasons we use Advantix.....the drop off BEFORE they bite. However, I'm not sure but what Higgins still get a flea now and then anyway. I'm with Bettye....I'd get another opinion if it doesn't clear up soon. |
