Yorkie Diet? My Yorkie He has some hot spots, and is really itchy. We've used oatmeal shampoo my Aunt suggested it. Although it does not seem to be working very well. I am wondering If maybe he is allergic to the ingredients found in Science Diet? If so any suggests what I should feed him? What is a good shampoo to use? Hopefully one that can be found in your local stores cause I am not able to purchase anything online. Want to get my little yorkie well.We have been to the vet all they gave me was a spray to spray on the hotspots. He really does not like it he gets mad when you spray him and tries to run away.He will roll around and try to rub it off and start barking. What can I do to get him better? |
Hello and welcome to YT. Science Diet is not the best food (even though before YT I thought it was. Lol) It very well could be allergies. I have one that has allergies to some foods. They are doing really good on Natural Balance and it has limited ingredients. As far as shampoo, I like Biogroom...although my favorite is Chris Christensen, but you have to order that. Good luck and I know you will get lots of great advice :) |

Thank you. Which one Do you suggest Which flavor? |
I had the same problem with Scooter and the vet told me to try salmon oil in his food. I have been using it for about a month now and his coat is so pretty and shinny. It is made just for dogs and I am so thankful the vet told me about this |

I am in agreement with the others, it may indeed be food allergies. In the first 5 ingredients Science Diet contains 3 grains: Brewers Yeast, Whole grain wheat, and corn gluten meal........not good for any dog especially one who may be allergic to grains. Switching to a higher quality food which eliminates the grains as proteins, and uses the complete proteins from meat and fish, as well as supplements like the salmon oil may be a solution. Also, for a fast help to relieve the itching and uncomforableness of your pet, you may want to try a "Hydrocortisone Spray" which is specifically made for dogs. That way you will also help mend the hotspots by using a topical. The brand that I found that works on my Andromeda when her allergies are really bad is called Pro*Pet. It is a clear oil-free spray which stops the itching immediately and gives her the relief she needs. It is sold over the counter at many pet and grocery stores. Good luck and please keep us updated. .....and Welcome to YT. |
He has some hot spots/scabs. And he is literally rubbing his hair out. He is losing his hair. What can I do? :( |
He has sores now. He is itching so much, That he is losing his hair. What can I do? |
So sorry about your baby. It does sound like allergies. One of my babies suffers from allergies. 2 summers ago, he had hotspots and had to be put on an antibiotic for about 2 months. After that my Vet said to give him half a tablet of Zyrtec. This seemed to clear up his problem. If your baby has sores, you should get him to the Vet, he may need a round of antibiotics. You may also want to post in the Sick Yorkies Emergency section to get some advice. I sure hope he gets to feeling better. |
Thank you. What kind of antibiotic did they give him? |
