WORRIED! My 6-year-old Yorkie Tooth is Falling Out! I new to come here then to do a google search! I was looking in my babies mouth and see that his back big tooth is hanging by a thread! He has always had bad breath no matter what bone, toothpaste or mint i give him! I don't know what to do :( I'm so upset and worried about my baby! |
I would call an emergency vet and ask for advice right now about what to do with the root and tooth. The rotten tooth is probably releasing bacteria into your dog's system, which can cause serious health problems. A vet also needs to examine your baby's mouth. He will probably need additional dental work. |
Yes you need to make an appointment with your vet - this sounds like it is starting to abscess. I just had to have my dog's tooth removed for the same thing. If it knocks out on its own, it can be a bloody mess so better get to the vet ASAP. |
Need to see the vet -- they will probably need to start on antibiotics. As previous poster said, bacteria is probably present and infection is likely if tooth is falling out. Did the vet check his teeth at last visit? Has he ever had a dental? Did the vet recommend a dental? The vet will check the rest of the teeth and you may need to go ahead and schedule a dental cleaning so this won't happen to any other teeth. If it truly is only hanging by a thread -- you can probably go ahead and pull it yourself. But if there is any more than a thread's worth of tissue holding it in, I would let the vet do it. Our breed is funny -- sometimes no matter how well you are taking care of their teeth, they just go bad. My Ben was like that. Had two dogs through the same years, using same foods, getting same dental care at home, same chews, etc.... one didn't really need a dental at all and the other had horrible tartar and had to get some teeth pulled! |
i agree with the others. You need to take him to the vet to be seen. Dogs do not get cavities like humans they have periodontal disease. Please take him to the vet and let us know how he is doing. |
