Please help I just got my first yorkie on Saturday i he has been sick since then. I wasnt bad on Saturday night then on Sunday he start to throw up brown, white and sometimes foamy, he did that Sunday and Monday then Monday afternoon I took him to the vet for a check and and to get caught up on his shots ( he was 3 weeks behind) He seemed to be fine on Tuesday and Wedensday but he has loose stools ( and also has since I got him) today he still has loose stools and he is throwing up white stuff again. Ive been lucky if I can get him to eat once a day. Ive tried pumpkin and chicken which he wanted nothing to do with either one. I can get him to drink water 2 or 3 times a day if I wake him up and make him drink other than that all he does is sleep. The vet tells me he SHOULD be fine but should isnt good enough for me does anyone have any ideas on what this cuold be and how to fix it? He is also pooping in his crate on his bedding dont know if this has anything to do with it or not. |
I say switch vets. I'm sorry, but if your pup is that sick, no vet should say he's fine. I'd also try feeding him boiled rice- plain. It helps with their stomachs and is the easiest for digestion. You can try some warm chicken broth mixed in if he won't eat just the rice. Other things will be too hard on his stomach. I'd say he was having a reaction to the shots, but you said he was sick beforehand. And please keep him updated on shots! One day is too late! Check for worms also. He needs to be taken back to a vet immediately- it could be a virus, etc. Good luck and I hope your little buddy turns out okay! |
I'm sorry your puppy isn't feeling well. I would have another vet check him out just to be on the safe side. He could have a little bug or have eaten something that isn't agreeing with him. Good Luck! |
I agree, find another vet ASAP. Have you contacted your puppy's breeder? How many weeks old is your puppy and how much does he weigh? With vomiting and diarrhea, you need to be concerned about dehydration and hypoglycemia. Keep a close eye on the color of his gums (should be nice and pink, no paleness) and his general behavior. Have Nutrical or Karo syrup on hand. Give a little if not eating. Is the vomit white, or does it have a little yellow coloring? Could be stomach bile from not eating. Try to coax to eat by handfeeding kibble and water. For food and water bowls, make sure you are using stainless steel or chip-resistant ceramic. (Maximo wouldn't even take a sip of water when I brought him home until I gave it to him in stainless steel). This could be something simple like adjusting to a new home, or it could be something serious. Please see another vet right away. |
We have had our Charlie since Sunday. His diet then was canned dog food and boiled chicken. I have been feeding him Science diet...he likes it when he is feeling well. Sometimes I have to add water or chicken broth in his food and sometimes he wants it just without anything. Tuesday he was vomiting and had loose stools. They gave him antibiotics and a shot to stop the vomiting & pedialite every hour. He was fine Wednesday and Thursday but today he woke up with poop in his crate...diarrhea and tried to vomit but couldn't. Is it normal to have such a sensitive tummy?? He is very tiny only weighs 1lb and he is 9wks old. |

I agree with the others about finding a new vet. Vaccinations should never be given to a sick puppy! You need a vet who will take his condition seriously. At his age, he could die from the dehydration and hypoglycemia even a "simple" tummy upset could cause. How old is the puppy? where did he come from? Have you spoken to his breeder? |
Thank you i am working on getting another vet. Today he seems to be better. When i walk away from him he cries and now he wants to play. I take him to work with me and my husband thinks i was over heating him in my office so once it get about 60 in my office i turn the heaters off and now he seems fine. Will keep you upto date. |
Im glad that you are getting a second opinion from another vet, this is not normal and a good vet would never give vaccinations to a sick puppy and say "he should be fine". How old is the pup? how much does the pup weigh? Also where did you get this pup from and have you contacted the breeder? I will keep your pup in my prayers and hope that he gets better soon, if you think he is sick or if he vomits again do not hesitate in taking him back to the vet. Its better to be safe then sorry and these little ones can go down fast. Good luck and please keep us updated. |
I have a very nervous little girl who would vomit when she gets nervous. She would drull alot too. Make sure to give your pup Nutri-Cal and don't take him where there's alot of noice or people. His in a new enviroment and that's alot for a little to take in. Some chicken and brown rice is good and I suggest Pedialite since his food is not staying in. |
