Help :( getting worried Hi, My yorkie puppy has lost interest in eating :( she is still very active and hardly wants to do anything other then play but I'm still very worried that she doesn't want to eat. Just now I put a kibble in her mouth and she just licks it and spits it out :( I don't know what to do. She is 5 months old and she is my first dog so I'm getting nervous. Help me |
Could she have a tooth problem? Will she eat anything else like a tiny piece of chicken or some canned dog food? |
I gave her very little pieces of skinned apple and she eats them fine. A couple of days ago she accidentally got into the garbage and I think ate avocado but she threw it up. She was already acting like she didn't want to eat before that though but I noticed that it's worse now. She just kind of smells it and doesn't get near it. Then today I tried feeding her one by one and she'll eat some and others she will just spit them out :( |
I'd give the vet a call if she doesn't eat better. I hope she will start eating more food for you. It's scary when they aren't themselves. Good luck!!!! |
Almost every new puppy owner goes through this. Puppies are like children and do not always eat full meals like we think they should. I prefer to free feed so they have food available at all times. Mine run in grab a kibble or two and are on their way. They never eat much at a time (except my Jack Russell). Don't worry too much. I don't think there has ever been a case where a puppy actually starved itself when food was available. People think they are but they will eat when they get hungry enough. Some days they are just not as hungry as others. If you are feeding a good premium food, I would not rush to change it. You might sprinkle a little parmasean cheese on it to entice. But I don't even do that. I just keep the food out and they wind up eating it. I do like to get several premium samples and let my pups try them to see what they like best. I put out a bowl of each and see which one they eat first. Almost invariably they will eat all of one before the others. That is the one I go with. I ONLY give them top premium choices. Junk dog food is sort of like junk people food, they like the taste of it. So, stick with all good foods so you will be good with whatver choice they make. |
Geez it seems like yesterday I was typing the same thing, so nervous she was not eating what she was supposed to. A few tricks people here told me about were adding a little parmasean cheese to the top of her food. Also drizzling a little Lowfat chicken broth to her food and or trying to add a little wet food to it , maybe her teeth are loose and it hurts to chew. ;) If all else fails try a little boiled white chicken with rice and mix it in with her kibble:D |
