Puppy to Adult food transition. Hi! Kenzie is 9 m/o now -they grow up so fast ); - and I'm wondering when do I have to switch her from her puppy food she adores to an adult formula/ Yorkie food? I need to think about the right brand to feed her when the time comes, our options here are kinda limited: -Royal Canin : Mini Adult or the Yorkie one. - ProPlan, Eukanuba, Purina ( these brands Im not so sure about) - Gal Ultimate Nutrition (this is a new brand here, it doesnt contain corn or by-products, but its grain based) - Kirkland or the Sams brand (dont remember the name) hope you can help me out. Thanks in advance :) |
You can read other threads on when to swtich to adult food but I think it's around a year old. As far as what type of adult food that's really up to you as far as what you're little one can tolerate. A lot of people here do feed Royal Canin also Acana, Orijen, Wellness, Fromm, Taste of the Wild, Blue Buffalo, and Nature's Variety just to name a few. I myself am switching over to Orijen puppy formula from Nature's Recipe. If you don't have a good selection where you are, you can always order it online which is what a lot of YT members do. Good luck. |
If those are your only options, I'd choose Kirkland. I hear a lot of people feed it to big dogs (since it's more expensive to feed big dogs) and do GREAT on it. It's really cost efficient but still a pretty good food, though it does contain grains. I've never heard of Gal Ultimate so I'd have to see ingredients to judge. Puppy food can be fed up until 12 months old but a lot of people stop earlier than that for Yorkies. It's all your preference really. Highly recommend Acana, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, etc, though and you can order these online now. |
thanks for the replies. Gal's Ultimates' label says it has chicken meal, oatmeal, dried apples, blueberries, carrots to name a few. Dont know if the green tea, parsley and mint its got as it reads"for digestive aid" is okay for yorkies. It also contains probiotics, which Ive read here on YT are good for dogs. We got some samples and Kenzie liked those a lot. Still dont know if its good enough for her, been told to give her RC for Yorkies, but its got corn. |
