Is any one else having a flea problem?
 

I have NEVER had a problem with fleas. For some reason, I am having a hard time getting rid of them. I can not stand to see my poor little babies scratching. Every time I pick them up and try to find the little bugger. I Have bathed them every other day. I used capstar, They are on frontline. I do not like that stuff but what do I do. Jackie can not use it because she gets real itchy with it. So today I went to the vet and she put them on comfortis.I never used it before so I hope it works. They all had it around 3pm and 6 hours later they are still scratching. The most that I have seen on any of them is 1 or 2. Which is to many. I have been looking every where for food grade Diatomaceous earth.It works good and is non toxic. It kills the fleas by. slicing them up. It kills ticks fleas and all other kind of pests. But finding it around here is another story.I guess I will order it online. What other things can I do for these poor babies?

I have had the same problem this year! And like you...never had a problem before. It has drove me crazy! I'm at a loss at this point I'm so frustrated.

I'm in the same boat. This is the first year I had to use front line. Like you only found one or two, but they keep coming back. I used the front line and barely get a month out of it and then boom I see one or two again. I know there is not anymore, because I bathe them every other week and also they hardly go out, but it seems as soon as they hit outdoors they come in with one or two. Very frustrating. It's costing me over $106 a month for flea preventative with the six of them. You would think it would be cold enough now for them to all be gone. :( Elaine

Pool companies usually sell diatomaceous earth. It is sometimes used as a filter aid to get the really fine particles out -- adds the sparkle to your water. :)

I am thankful for never having a flea problem. I use Minksheen shampoo and it has natural insecticides -- no chemicals.

I HATE fleas. And yes, Tabby's got 'em!! In fact she just got out of the bath (it's midnight here, there was NO WAY she was staying in bed with me with fleas. Any shampoo will wash them off and kill them but it's the lifecycle you want to kill. I finally broke down and ordered BioSpot. I've used that before with great results. Gets flea stages plus several different types of tick. I also ordered these electronic flea traps. It's been 3 days, no fleas in the traps :(

The pool type is different then Food grade. You can eat the food grade and we do and do not even know it. The farmers cover the wheat that they make bread with to keep the bugs out. Pool grade is heated at a high temp. and a cemical is added which makes it toxic to pets and humans. The regular type people mix it with juice as a daily thing. But the nice thing you can put it on the dogs coat around the house and it will not harm them at all. If you look it up it is amazing what you can do with it. But it has to be food grade.

I do not know if they had them and they are itching the bite or I missed some.I will get these little buggers. I spent a lot of money at the vets today to get rid of these things.And I will.

1. Frontline Plus! Why not like it?-it doesn't have a pesticide it's actually one of the safest on the market...the regular Frontline didn't work great for me either...
2. vacuum, vacuum. vacuum-my son has dust mite allergies so we vacuum a lot
3. You sure its fleas and not something else? Bug or skin infection?
4. We have a local pesticide free pest control company spray the yard once a month to keep us almost everything free...
5. I heard eucalyptus (the oil especially) repells fleas...dunno never really had them odd one or two and got a dog who was infested the only thing with the regular frontline was it didn't kill sand fleas, chewing lice or ticks which we have infested on our beaches here-YUCKY!
6. I had no idea Dawn killed fleas! We use it here for my mini schnauzer it rids her (she's white) of tear stains, beef staining (on her beard, feet and ears) without the side effects of antibiotics in things like Angel Eyes etc....and is the only wash that can penetrate and actually clean her (she's a mega coat) and penetrate her double coat without drying out her sensitive skin! Apparently Dawn dish soap is the miniature schnauzer breeder secret beauty product (shhhhhhtttt I didn't tell you all)Totally glad I know this now!

Well, as you know Brenda, I have had a problem too. Fortunately I've not seen any since we talked but they are still kinda scratching. I am going to try the dawn tomorrow that we picked up at Target. Hopefully it will stop them from itching. I haven't checked the bag yet that I got, I will in the morning.

I did and when we have one it can get bad and expensive because we have 2 yorkies, 3 adult cats and 3 kittens. I treated them all with advantage and the fleas are gone. Advantage is the only flea killer I trust because it has always did the job for me and you can safely put a couple of drops on young kittens and treat them also

We have huge fleas in Texas! I do not have problems at all. I believe it is the fact that I use Advantage religiously. I have heard of others having problems...and so far, none have told me they used the same product.

As for having six pups...you can save a lot of money by buying a box for large breed dogs. It is only a bit more costly than for the small dogs and you get a TON more doses this way. Get a bottle and put one or two vials at a time in that bottle. Ask your vet for the dosage by weight...he can give it to you in cc's and you can use a syringe to dose it out. You will not believe how much longer it lasts!

How funny...we posted pretty close together. Hopefully that tip I just gave on the dosages might also help you save some money!

The only thing I want to say about Dawn is that even when you wash with it, there are fleas that will hide in the dogs' ears and butts. They don't die!
Then in a day or so you have fleas again and how many times can you bathe them?
I use Advantage once/month and I never see fleas! And....my pups live to a ripe old age...it is not killing them!
