Found a tick..omg Ok so I am petting Roxie and find a small whitish color tick on the side of her neck, I managed to get it off, but there is a small dime sized red spot where the tick was. I cleaned it with alcohol and put neosporin on it, and she does not seem bothered by it, should i be freaked out? |
I think she will probably be fine just to be on the safe side look up what kind of tick it was and if it could carry lyme disease then get a magnifying glass and check he area close to make sure you did not leave any mouth behind |
For future reference, if you find a tick, cover it with vasaline, it will smother it and force it to back out fully, that way you have no worry that it left anything inside your baby. That's the trick we use on the horses, works the same for people and dogs. |
Thanks, honestly I was petting her and rubbing her neck and I felt something wierd and it just sort of fell off. Her neck just looks a little irritated, but I am going to keep a close eye on it, and keep it clean and hope for the best. |

if it just fell off it's unlikely the tick did too much damage, good thing you found it when you did. But it may be worth getting checked out. I forgot about lime disease. |
Ticks can also carry rocky mountain spotted fever along with lime disease. If it just "fell off" I'm sure she will be fine just keep a very close eye on the spot. |
Yes, the red spot is normal. I always apply some neosporin. This year has been horrible for ticks in the mid-Atlantic region. Even with a monthly application of Frontline, I'm still finding at least one tick on each of my dogs each week. I think because it's not getting cold, they are not dying off like they usually do. One of my dogs is especially prone to getting ticks. We do "tick checks" every night before going to bed now. At least today is really cold here in the DC area, so hopefully we'll now have some colder weather. |
We used to burn ticks and Chiggers off with a lite cigarette. Important not to pull the body off and leave the head embedded. Are you sure the entire tick fell off? For peace of mind, maybe call the Vet. |
I have decided that I am going to check on her when I get home and if the red spot is still there I am going to take her to the vet before they close for the holidays. And you know I am really aggravated by these so called flea and tick meds. We have used Frontline it stopped working, now she is on Comfortis and Sentinel and nothing works. Aghhh...the aggravation of the whole thing!! |
