Nutritionist for Peaches? Hello all, I haven't visited in a while, but it seems to me I remember reading about a nutritionist who was simply awesome when it came to prescribing healthy and helpful diets for our babies with eating "issues". I think she was contacted by phone and her rate was somewhere around $75.00. She's my last hope..my girl is on Hills Science Diet LD (she cannot seem to digest protein...) and she truly hates the stuff! She will barely eat and her little tummy just growls & gurgles something awful. I had her to the vet and she is on probiotics, pepci a/c and beano, but there hasn't been a lot of relief for her, I'm sorry to say. She was diagnosed with MVD, hence the low protein diet and when I ran out of the Hills last week, I fed her some cannned Organix chicken and while she loved it, it made her very sick. I would love to home cook for her, but it seem to me everything has protein in it. I'm hoping a good nutritionist can direct me. Any help you can provide would be so appreciated! Thank you!! |

Has she seen an Internist or GI Specialist yet? With these kinds of issues, that could be so helpful :)! And then consult also with a nutritionist, like you were thinking already. I sort of wonder if there is more going on here bc of all the gurgling. I consulted with her for Marcel when he was post-giardia (as a puppy), and he had just horrible tummy gurgling and runny poos. I'm not sure how familiar she is w/ MVD - but as you can see, there are Vet Nutritionists on this list too, and they would def. be familiar w/ MVD (or, should). |
Just remember, she HAS to have protein to live. You may have to go low protein but she has to have protein so do not skip trying a food because of protein in it -- just try to use ones that are lower in percent. Vet should be able to advise what percent based on your dogs issues. Does she have chronic pancreatitis? |

My dog Daisy has MVD along with a lot of other problems. I consulted by phone with the vet nutritionist Dr Remillard at Angell in Boston after my Daiisy could no longer tolerate the hill's L/D diet. Our blood work has gone from horrible at postprandial bile acids over 100 to normal and it's because of Dr Remillard. This is not to disparage other options but few can match Dr Remillard in terms of education and experience and she sees many sick dogs and many sick yorkies. Her consult fee currently is $95 and a diet formulation is about $60. She does not sell supplements and has no stake in the supplement market. I have used her for all 3 dogs but the most dramatic results have been for Daisy. She also helped me when barney almost died from pancreatitis after eating a can of dog food. Personally, I want a licensed veterinarian to advise on my dogs and when it comes to a specialty like nutrition, I want a board certified professional. |
