my baby is throwing up!
 
HELP! I'm a new yorkie owner and my 5 month old yorkie has just thrown up. This is the first time this has ever happened and I'm worried. It was yellow so I'm not sure what that means. Anyone with advice please let me know. :confused:

When was the last time your Yorkie had anything to eat? Sometimes they will throw up yellow bile if their stomach is empty.

Is anything else going on like shaking or unsteady walking?

If so it could be hypoglicemia. Do you have any Nutri-Cal or Kayro syrup on hand?

He ate a little bit today but not much. i gave him his syrup for the day. and yes he was shaking.

Unless it keeps happening and doesn't stop, I wouldn't worry too much. Sometimes they just get sick. Occasionally Copper will eat something that doesn't agree with him and throw up yellow stuff. He always has kibble and water available to him, so I know it is not that he is hungry. If it continues, then you may want to take your dog to the vet.

It sounds like he needs to eat more frequently. I know it is hard when they don't want to eat but with these little guys you have to make sure they eat something. Hopefully, he will start eating more and it won't be a problem. If not I would get him to your vet.

It almost sonds like he has hypoglicemia... He needs to eat about 3 or 4 time per day.. and if he does not like the dry kibble you can giving him, give him wet puupy food...and I would get some nutri-cal for sure.. Their blood sugar can drop so fast when they are young.

My yorkie began throwing up yellow bile and getting the shakes when she was around that age and it continued to happen consistently about every month. I gave her nutrical and food thinking that she wasn't eating enough and 4 months ago (at age 2 and a half) she was diagnosed with a liver shunt. I'm not suggesting that your baby has a liver shunt but this is something that should always be considered with yorkies. My Zoe began with symptoms like yours and it steadily got worse so please consider asking your vet to perform a bile acid test to be on the safe side because my dog was very sick for 2 years and I had no clue.

:thumbup:-Considering that Yorkies have such a high rate of liver shunts. Ask your Vet when is a good time to do a bile acid test to be sure. Our little DJ had his LS fixed when he was 6 1/2. Previous owner(s) never ran the tests and probably was one of the reasons he died so young (7 1/2).

Our Cooper was throwing up every morning ...at 4am. The yellow bile yucky stuff. The vet told us because these little guys are so active, if they go too long without eating the acid in their stomach gets riled up and UP it comes. He suggested giving a snack later at night, say around 8pm ( even if it meant holding back some of his dinner from 4) . It worked the first night we did it. No more throwing up. Have to remember yorkies are not like the 'big guys" who can eat once a day. Try that and if it doesnt help definitely go to the vet for tests

Bile acid tests are not accurate before 6 months of age.

Thank you all so much with this issue! Today was a better day for him. He seemed to act as though nothing ever happened! :)
