Chloe's having trouble pooping :-( My little girl is having the hardest time going to the bathroom. It takes her a good 2 or 3 mintues just trying. And yesterday it wouldn't even come out, she ended up dragging herself across the grass. I need all of your help to give me options on what to feed her or your advice if your dog has had this problem! So far I tried soft food, mixed with pumpkin and water and she loved it but still had a very hard time going and when she did it was rock solid. :( I feel so bad for her and want to help her asap. Can't wait to read your input, thanks so much! |
Poor Chloe. How long has she had this problem? What food (kibble brand?) does she normally eat? You can try giving her bottom and belly a warm bath. Exercise is good too. Maximo had severe constipation once and these things, combined with the pumpkin, helped. He also had difficulty eliminating when he was a eating a particular brand of food. |
I'v been feeding her science diet puppy. The vet told me not to give her too much soft food due to their teeth. But I've given in and got her some and she loves it. This problem has been going on for about 3 days now :( Today she came around a bit but it was still very hard |

Has Chloe always been on Science Diet? Before these problems started, was she a good eater? Have you ever tried another kibble? What are you giving her for soft food? Is she drinking enough water? Check Chloe's rectum frequently for any dry, stuck fecal matter. Hold a warm wash cloth to her bottom, or try the warm bath I suggested. |
You might want to consider taking her to the vet. Maybe she has an impaction or blockage. Also, have you considered switching to a different kibble? Many vets recommend Science diet but they are not trained in nutrition. That could help if it's simply constipation and no blockage. Good luck Chloe! |
She's been on this food since I've had her. She is getting better with the pumpkin today i am off and will be spending my whole day inspecting her and trying to get her to go. Also a trip to petsmart is planned to get booties and look at some new food! Do you guys suggest any special kind? And the reason they rather her be on hard food is because it makes the teeth stronger? I guess soft food doesnt build up the strength of their teeth, i was surprised myself when i was told not to give her soft food, because she loves it! |
poor baby , my oliver hides whenever he has any poop related issues. my vet told me to use mineral oil & it worked great. best 2 check with your vet so you give the correct amount & the problem isn't anything more serious. good luck hope it resolves soon its very hard to watch them suffer like that:confused: |

Does Chloe like to chew bones? I think chewies of various kinds would do more than kibble for tooth/jaw strength. My guys like Merrick Texas Toothpicks, Himalayan Chews, and Merrick Wishbones. For food choices, Petsmart carries Wellness and Castor Pollux. If you have a Petco in your area, they carry Merrick Before Grain and Wellness Core. Specialty shops have Orijen, Acana, Fromm, and other great choices. If your budget permits, Honest Kitchen is a great dehydrated food that you add water to. Chloe may like that. Tractor Supply carries Taste of the Wild, and Costco has Kirkland's. Finding the right food for your little girl will require a little testing. The specialty shops usually have samples, or you can order a sample pack online from places Luke's All Natural. Try mixing in a little of the wet food with the kibble to encourage Chloe to eat both. |
