Raw diets Hi everyone, Has anyone used Nature's Variety Instinct raw diets. I'm thinking about switching to a raw diet. I've done some research, and they really recommend it. I found this new product and was wondering if anyone has tried it? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks Gio:animal36 |
We used to use nv raw organic chicken but our dog got sick of it. For what it's worth, it seemed really good for him, nice poo, nice coAt, etc. Now we use Stella and chewys dehydrated raw in the mornings (sooo much easier than defrosting every night) and origin kibble at night. He loves the taste of stellas much better. |
I tried a raw diet with my cocker spaniels! Left them with solid poo, nice coat, amazing teeth and kept them at a healthy weight. I did the frozen already prepared and it got too expensive for me to maintain after my job started downsizing. If that wasn't the case I would have kept them on it. Goodluck with your decision. |
I feed Jackson either Primal Raw or Stella & Chewy's and it's usually around 3x a week (I do it for his breakfast). He gets 3 Primal 'nuggets' in the morning and 1/2 cup of Orijen or Acana kibble in the evening (he is 15lbs). I've noticed less poo on the raw for sure, and since we've started it I've noticed his teeth are getting a little cleaner. He has really nice teeth but did have some staining/tarter on his top canine teeth that has visibly went away for the most part, and I also use Petzlife once a week. He always gets compliments on how shiny is coat is and how nice shape he is in, but he had a shiny coat just eating Acana/Orijen kibble too so I don't know if I can 'credit' the raw for that. But it's sooo nice to see him enjoying his meal and wanting to eat in the mornings (I don't give him breakfast otherwise, because he won't eat anything else in the AM's). If I could afford to feed it full-time, I would, and if I had more time, I definitely would. The pre-made gets pretty expensive though so feeding 3x a week works for us and I'm not in a position nor do I want to do prey model raw (where you basically do it all yourself). I'm not comfortable with that or have the desire to do it. But the pre-made raw is super easy.... |

I had Sasha on NV raw about a year or 2 ago. She liked it at first but then wanted nothing to do with it one day. I had even tried switching up flavors to see if that made a difference. I was disappointed because she had done so well with it, especially for only eating it for a few weeks. About a month or 2 ago, I discovered a store a few miles away from me that sells Primal Raw so I decided to give it a try. She's been eating Primal Raw for breakfast for the past 2 months now and is doing great on it. She absolutely loves it. I give her BB Wilderness kibble for dinner. I would feed all raw but right now it's just more reasonable to feed her this way. Plus, she's very happy. |
We rotate between NV and primal... I like then both |
I've been feeding NV raw for breakfast for around 6 months. All three of mine love it. I have a VERY picky 14 year old that turned her nose up at everything, I would just let her free feed, and she would eat when she got hungry. Since I started feeding her NV raw, she has not turned her nose up at it, not even once! She begs for it. I put it down for the three, and by the time I fill their water bowl and scoop some kibble in another bowl (they free feed for the rest of the day), it's all gone. They are all doing really well on it. Their coats look great and their poops are small. I have not had to clean any poop residue off of their butts, ever. My one year olds look like they've recently had a dental, even though they have never had one. I can highly recommend the food. |
I've been feeding Primal Raw, for over a year...I did feed Stella & Chewies, for a little while, but Apple gained too much weight, on the recommended amounts for her weight...However, I have to feed a little more of the Primal, than they recommend, to maintain their weight nicely... |
Zoey has been on raw food since she was 3 months old. I gave her Primal and she loved it. Then she became a little picky so I swithched to NV and she loved it. Now, 3 bags later, she is getting picky again. What I do is grate some cheese on top of the nuggets and she eats it up in about 26 seconds. I haven't tried Stella's yet but may sometime. I love the small poops with little smell and her teeth are just gleaming white. Don't be afraid to try raw - it does wonders. Cherie |
Remy's been on NV Raw for over a year now and has done very well |
Snickers was on NV raw for months and then one day turned his little nose up to it. He is so picky. Now we feed Primal Raw and he is doing beautifully on it. Turned out to be a good switch since I started seeing larger shards of bone in the NV and Snick would not eat the nugget if the large bone was in it. Also, NV gets their rabbit from China which is a huge no-no in my book. Good luck!! Snick & Viv |
I started my two on Primal raw about 3 weeks ago and they are doing great! I went through one bag of chicken and am now on turkey and they absolutely LOVE it! There are so many different varieties that I don't think they will get sick of it. Immediately I noticed less poop and it's solid and doesn't stink. Also super shiny coats. My little girl is only 4.5 months and she had really dry skin but after being on Primal for a couple weeks, all of the flakes went away! It is a little more expensive, but I say it's worth it. On average it costs me an extra $20 bucks a month compared to kibble, that's only eating out twice a month for me, so I'm willing to cut back to make sure my furbabies get the best. |
I've been feeding raw for about 3 years now. Stared with NV, and then Primal, and am going to try Stella&Chewys. Mainly, I feed Primal duck. |
