What do you use to brush your baby's teeth? I've been a bad mommy & haven't been brushing my baby's teeth. :( I need ideas on what to get to properly brush her teeth. Fortunately, she doesn't really have bad breath (she did when she had a few baby teeth coming out, but that only lasted a few weeks & now it's back to normal). But I realize it's best to keep her teeth brushed to help prevent tooth decay & tooth loss later in life. |
I am a pediatric dentist and I recommend the following brush to my "new moms" with human babies...so I of course use this on my own furbabies!!! Amazon has them and you can search for "banana baby toothbrush" Kushies makes it. I am putting the link in here..but if it doesn't come out you can do a manual search on Amazon to see it. Hope that helps!! Karen, Ozzy and Harley |

I use gauze |
Do you just brush them with water or use some kind of toothpaste? |
I use the Colgate Wisp disposable toothbrushes. They have a little hard toothpast lump in the middle but I pop it out. It's just the right size for mine. They make toothpaste for dogs that comes in all kinds of yummy flavors like beef and chicken. Here's a link for the toothbrush I'm talking about. You can pick it up at any drug store though. |
I use canine toothpaste- there is no special kind- I think I have used a bunch of different ones- you can find it at any pet store or even on the internet... I also use baby toothbrushes. I also use petzlife gel every few days. A few months ago I noticed a little plaque starting to build up on the back teeth and used LEBA III for a month to get rid of it. So far, this has all worked good- my oldest is 3.5 years old and still has pearly whites and has never needed a dental. |
I use a rubber finger brush. It just fits over the end of your finger and you can direct it a lot better and nothing hard to hurt if they are a little uncooperative. They are like this one: Dog Finger Toothbrush Dental Care Dog Health. Very inexpensive and easy to use. Then I use any doggy toothpaste. I am not sure it is that important about the toothpaste itself, the physical brushing is what does the job. |
I use the doggy toothpaste and toothbrushes that Petsmart carries. They may these toothbrushes that have a small head on one end and they work great for little yorkie mouths. I replace them once every month or so. I've used Petrodex toothpaste in the past and now use one made by Four Paws that smells a bit like vanilla. I cannot stress enough the benefits of oral hygiene for dogs (and humans too!). Vinnie has had his teeth brushed every night since I adopted him almost 7 years ago. He has never had a tooth removed and has only had his teeth cleaned twice professionally. He has NO tartar on his teeth and his breath is fresh as can be. Considering he's about 8 or 9, that's pretty darn good! Brushing teeth each day costs about $8/month (at most) and saves a TON of money and pain that comes with decayed teeth. It also likely prevents a host of other health problems that come along with bad teeth. |
I want to know how often everyone is doing this. Our teeth brushing experiences are less than pleasant ones so I tend to not do this daily like I really think I should. :( Peggy, Monkey & Maddie :daisy: |
I just switched to CET toothpaste and Uni loves the taste much better than what I was using Nutri-Vet. I got this starter pack for the tiny finger brush. It works way better for us. I couldn't use the rubber finger brushed bc Uni thought they were a toy. I have read many reviews and the chicken flavor is by far the winner.C.E.T. Mini Toothbrush and for $2.99 it's a great price to try it out! I find the CET really is very good. Before the other brands I tried the yellow was still on her teeth. With the CET after just one brushing the yellow was gone! I also use petzlife spray. i try to remember to use it daily. |

Thank you everyone! I've got a lot to go look at now! ;) |
I use the little doggie toothbrushes that fit on your index finger. We've used a lot of different flavors of dog toothbrushes (I think right now we are on peanut butter). It works pretty well for us. Levi doesn't like having his teeth brushed, but he's learned to behave/wiggle around less. I try to brush his teeth twice a week. He has not yet needed a dental. |
I use a human baby toothbrush. I have tried the canine finger toothbrushes as well as a canine toothbrush but they are just way too big, making it difficult to get into the sides of the mouth to get the back teeth. The toothbrush is a medium soft. Roxy brushes everyday. She comes to expect it now. Cute. |
Buster also like the Virbac CET chicken flavor tooth paste Virbac Animal Health | C.E.T.. He actually enjoys having his teeth brushed or should I say tongue brushed. I have to keep brushing around his licking tongue. I also use Heathy Mouth a water additive that helps reduce plaque https://www.healthymouth.com/index.p...ogs&atype=dogs. It is expensive because all the ingredients are natural. There are other less expensive additives you can use as well. Virbac CET also makes dental chews. They are all accepted by VOHC Veterinary Oral Heath Council Veterinary Oral Health Council I use a soft baby toothbrush with the smallest head I can find. |

I might be interested in getting the CET toothpaste. I use a brand from Petsmart right now but Jackson despises it. I also was just using a human toothbrush on him, but might want to get a smaller brush for small dogs to work better. Any ideas on where to purchase CET toothpaste for the best price? |
I am using Oxyfresh Pet gel, with the Oral Hygiene Solution. I really like it and I so far have very fresh puppy breath. I also use a baby toothbrush I think its for 0-24 months and it works perfectly! I brush everyday, and I am REALLY trying to get in the habit of brushing morning and night.. I do forget the am brushing sometimes but she does get her teeth brushed at least once a day:) Brister.. Entirely Pets seemed to priced really reasonable. I get Taycie's Omega Caps from them and their shipping is VERY fast. I haven't really looked into C.E.T myself but I think I would order from them if I did. They had a mini toothbrush that was for 2.99 and the toothpaste itself was 4.49 for a 2.5 oz tube.. Results for C.E.T toothpaste - Search Hope this helps:) |

It is what our vet said to use. They seem to like it more than a brush because it is just your finger wrapped in gauze. |
I use toothpaste specifically formulated for dogs that I get at Petsmart or my vet's office. I don't use any specific kind, but I like the Four Paws brand because it smells like vanilla. Anyway, they sell doubleheaded toothbrushses at petsmart and I just use the small end for my little guys. Works great! I brush my dogs' teeth faithfully and it has really paid off. I've had Vinnie for about 7-8 years now and he's only had his teeth professionally cleaned twice (and the last one he didn't even need, but he had to be put under for something else so I figured I would just have it done while he was out). Both dogs have white teeth and no bad breath (a huge accomplishment because yorkies are known for having bad teeth). One thing that has really helped is that I keep the same routine each evening with them. We go out for our last potty, come back in and get a treat, and then immediately brush teeth. By keeping the routine always the same it really helps them be used to it. I don't think they like it, but they tolerate it :-) |
