Deer meat, is it ok to feed them? My hubby went hunting this year, first time in over 10 years and got a buck. He is having some burger made from it. Is it ok to feed them deer meat with rice and vegies as long as it is boiled instead of fried? Or is there to much fat? |
I know that a lot of the premium dog foods contain venison. I would think that deer meat is much less leaner than lamb - but not sure on that. Mine are on a lamb and chickpea formula and was thinking of changing to Natural Balance "Sweet potato and venison". |
Actually, even though I'm no expert-- venison is much leaner than lamb. Most hunters that I know have to have pork sausage added to deer meat when making "deer burger" or sausage because of the lack of fat. It makes the sausage or burger VERY dry and tastless without the added fat. |
Venison and most wild game is much better for our fur kids than beef & poultry we buy in the supermarkets simply because wild game aren't pumped full hormones and antibiotic's, and aren't fed feed made from dead diseased animals. I could go on, but I won't. Wish I could get my hands on some venison for my girls. If I lived in West St. Paul MN. I sure could. My husbands family own a meat market and the process deer for the hunters and also get deer of their own to sell. My husband gave up hunting years ago. I gave him such a guilt trip over shooting those beautiful deer. :rolleyes: |
Cricket loves deer cricket love deer she thinks its a treet she can smell it when i fix it and stands at my feet waitinf for hers... We feed deer to her and our wiemeraner and they cant get enough it seems sometimes our vet said since it dont have as much fat and the hormones of store bought meat its the best u can feed them mixed with all the other healthy veggies |
it's fine. i'd personally feed it raw...frying it isn't going to hurt anything either it's a lean meat to begin with. |
Levi loves the venison varieties of Wellness (we will occasionally use the canned food or treats). It is a lean meat, so I think you are probably fine. |
Yes! Gun season opens this weekend in Wisconsin and I hope I can find someone to get me a deer- besides processing, it is a good and cheap way to get meat for my raw feed dogs! |
