Probiotics & Enzymes have made a difference Has or does anyone use probiotics/enzymes for their dog? I recently started adding these (its one pill) to Mocha's wet food and I swear he is a different dog. His appetite is better, stools are more consistent, energy level has increased, less gas, and eye goop is far less. He only gets 2-3 oz of wet food in the morning, just enough to mix the 1/2 tab of probiotics. I can see the difference, but wanted to know from the YT experts your feelings. I feed Welleness, which he does well on. He had recently been on an antibiotic. I know that antibiotics generally strip the system of good and bad bacteria. Probiotics replace and regulate the good bacteria in the system (human & dog). Please share with me your thoughts, concerns, and opinions! |
I have been a proponent of probiotics coupled with enzymes for years as well. Andromeda has Lymes which attacks the immune system. Well to make a long explanation short, the GI tract is a key link in immune system support, so if the Gi system is not working properly then the immune system will also suffer; causing progression and acceleration of the disease's infectious properties. I mix a powder in with her food everyday. It has been a life-saver in keeping her healthy. |
I started giving Lady probiotics/digestive enzymes several years ago after she has three episodes of HGE in four months. I also switched her to a homecooked diet. Knock on wood, she hasn't had HGE since. Which brand did you get? I love Animal Essentials, but recently switched to First Choice Naturals. I heard it was good to switch brands every so often. |
I've been wondering what brand and kind of probiotics to use for my boys, especially Neo. He stays itchy and is much more delicate than Connor, but I would like to use it on both boys. I have tried the new liquid Dynovite, but it didn't live up to the hype and the boys stopped eating it, even if I put in ground turkey or lean hamburger (their favorites). I feed Orijen RR and mix a little meat(boiled) in to entice. Would probiotics be tastless if mixed in their food? |
I was wondering what kind of probiotics I can use in my boys food. Could I use the same kind that humans take (in the gelatin capsule form)? |
I have had an issue with my little Beckham from the time that I got him till recently when I changed his diet to a low protein/low fat one and adding "Wholistic Acidophilus" to his food daily. It is a powder form and you generally add about 1/8 teaspoon into their kibble each day. I think it may be tasteless because my dogs eat their food just like before I started adding it in. I, too, have seen a tremendous difference in my dogs since I have done this. So, I'm hoping its all good. |

is this pill necessary? I've never heard of them and never fed it to my 5-year old yorkie. Is it recommended that I feed them this? from what age and how many times? Thanks! |

Taycie is still getting over her last GI upset with her old food. We were almost a 100 percent but then she jumped on the table and ate the cat food while I was in the bathroom. Would probiotics be a good thing to give her while her tummy heals? Yogurt does not work for us, just gives her massive blowouts. Pumpkin is 50/50 sometimes helps sometimes does not. |

I too think probiotics and enzymes can do wonders sometimes! When the small intestine becomes unbalanced and the flora gets funky, it can cause all kinds of problems. They can really be essential for post-giardia puppies, since giardia actually begins to digest the GI tissue in puppies (not seen as much in adults). We use it too...it works wonders. There are brands out there than are in powder form so that it can be sprinkled on their food. |
ple the underlying cause is the diarrhea, which then results in the losing of the protein, which then results in the water retention. The lasix is keeping her doing okay with the retention. Her activity and spirit have returned. But the diarrhea is not controlled yet. HELP! She is precious!! |
