Laser Spay Surgery vs. Traditional I just found out that the new vet I am taking Roxy to offers laser spay surgery. I know there are benefits when doing the laser but any opinions if it is worth it? I'm getting conflicting opinions. Thanks! |
Just wanted to bump this up...I have the same question. ;) |
I think it's a good thing. Quicker recovery, too. |
Perhaps a good thing when done by a vet with EXPERIENCE in laser surgery. Just like laser surgery in humans -- it's a great tool and can dramatically reduce pain and the recovery period -- but when done by an inexperienced surgeon can result in tragedy. |
Max just got neutered today with laser surgery so I'll certainly tell you how that went. I'm picking him up in 1/2 hour:D My Cooper was neutered with laser surgery 2 years ago. I brought him home and there was 0 recovery time. He was fine when he walked in the door. |
From what I have been reading, laser surgery has the benefit of being less painful (because the nerve endings are burned by the laser) but that could be a problem if the dog gets too active before being totally healed. The dog still has the traditional incision through the skin, though. |
