Breathing Problem
 

I am a new owner of a Yorkie. Bella is 3 months & went for her 1st series of shots & she got the kennel cough, why I ask myself because we would never put her in a kennel but vet said if she goes to groomer it would be a good thing. Well anyway she got it sprayed up the nose & now ever since she has been having the weezing & renching. Took her back to the vet & they put her Clovax for 10 days but didn't do a thing. Am I over reacting & this 1 shot will leave her system or does she have a breathing problem that i should be concerned about? Any input would be appreciated please. Previous owner of 2 Bichons.

congrats on your new little baby bella, and welcome to yorkie talk! i have a little 5 month old baby pixie i adopted 3 weeks ago and she was diagnosed with kennel cough today. she had been vaccinnated for bordatella before i got her, but still ended up with it somehow. yorkies are extremely prone to CT, collapsed trachea so that is something that you might want to have checked out. for pixie, this was ruled out today by the dr pressing on her trachea and they also did a radiograph. her trachea is normal (thank goodness) but the radiograph showed some congestion in her lungs so he concluded she has kennel cough. she has 2 different medications, antibiotics (doxycycline) and cough tabs. i've heard of several people having to give several rounds of antibiotics before thier little ones finally got rid of it. so she might possibly need another round. i've heard of some giving antibiotics for months before it went away. another cause of this could be "reverse sneeze" which is very common in yorkies once again and i'm pretty sure that is a normal thing that does not cause harm. there is a thread on yorkie talk that has videos of ct, reverse sneeze, and kennel cough and they might help you as well. i hope this helps somewhat! you should definately have her checked out again if the cough isn't going away because it can turn in to pneumonia or a respiratory infection. hope your little one recovers very soon!!! best of luck to you & bella!
