wondering how big my yorkie be as adult
 
Hi Everyone! I just joined YT and so happy I did. I have been reading messages about yorkies and it helps me a lot that I decided to join.

My Gizmo is 14 wks old and 2.5 lbs. Im wondering how big he will get as adult. According to the Yorkie chart, it whould be 4.5lbs but I would like to know based on people experiences. Thank you :)

WELCOME TO YT!!! I guess the experience here would be that not all the yorkies are alike. Some will follow the charts, some won't.

I was told a general rule is whatever they are at 12 weeks, double it and you know what it was pretty much on the ball, Teegy is is a year and 3 months and is 5.4 lbs

The doubling of the 12 week weight seems to be accurate for the MOST part. Jackson was 6lbs at 12 weeks old and stayed at 12lbs up until he was 1 year old, now he is 15lbs and healthy. So more or less, doubling the 12 week weight CAN be accurate.

Although 1 year old is considered to be an adult - some continue to grow past that. Mine grew until about 18 months. She was 1.5 lbs at 12 weeks - so according to the charts she would be 3 lbs as an adult - well she's almost 5 lbs.

I have found that those charts are used as approximations - most of the times - they will prove to be wrong.

Troy was about 2.5 pounds at 12 weeks. He was right on target with the yorkie growth charts. He's 15 months now and he is about 4 pounds.

Tucker didnt follow the charts.. he was "suppose" to weigh 7.5 pounds grown, he is now 9/9.5 pounds. His parents were 4 pounds so that theory didnt work either... oh and he is solid as rock, sturdy little fella and he isnt fed alot of snacks..lol.
SO while it may work for some, it doesnt work for others...:).. you will know about the 18 month mark about what your pups adult wieght will be..:)

Chloe was 2.42 lbs at 11 weeks and she now is 9.24 lbs at 18 months, she is not over weight, so it is anyones guess.

I guess I'll have to wait and see how big he gets :) He eats a lot...Im sure he will weight more than the chart says he will..lol. Thank you all for the reply.

Welcome to YT! My Vinny weighs about 8lbs, but he might be a mix (I doubt it though) and he is only a tiny bit overweight. Those charts are insane sometimes.

kiwi was less than 2lbs at 12wks, now she is about 2lbs..
