my yorkie doesnt eat kibles hi, im new in this forum, i have a problem with my little princess, her name is Gucci and she just turn 3 months a few days ago, the problem is that she cant chew the kibles, its like it she doesnt have teeth to chew it, sometimes she doesnt even like the smell of the kibles, she smells it and turns the other way and leaves, she doesnt even touch it, this problem started right after she got sick, when i just bought her she ated kibles so fast thats when she were 2 month but after being hospitalize for aproximated a week the doctor gave her a prescription canned food of the brand Id the doctor told me that i have to give her that food for 4 days and then back to kibles but she didnt want eat so i got the kibles soak in water until they can be smashed and mixed it with some can food and she ate it, i tried getting a kible in her mouth but i realize she cant bite it, so now i change to a kible named Nutriece but she doesnt like it eithe, i still smash it and mixing it with canned food but she barelly touches it, what can i do? im all ready 1 month stuck with this problem |
Hi your problem is common for Yorkies. You can try smashing the kibbles without soaking them. You can buy a different brand and mix it with your old one. You can mix the kibble with some of your own food instead of can food. Your little one can definitely chew her kibble. Yorkies are terriers and they can be very stubborn. Almost everyone around here had the same problem and we all got through this phase. You can also try giving her some honey if she doesn't eat as much as she should. Salmon oil is also a good supplement that can increase her appetite. And don't forget that you should be more stubborn than her in order to win! Maria |
She eats canned food okay right. There is nothing wrong with giving that and then you can experiment with different brands untill you find one she likes. I would look for one with a small kibble. She can eat kibble though she just doesnt want to. I have 5 wk old kittens and their teeth is strong enough for hard food so I know your yorkie is just being picky its not because she cant eat it. Another think you can try is putting a little parmesian cheese on the kibble, Good luck! |
It's definitely not because her teeth aren't strong enough. Our adpotee Zander had ALL his teeth pulled and still eats dry kibble. We generally add chicken broth to ours and let it soak for 10-20 mins. They definietly don't turn their nose up on that one! |
That's because chicken broth is "real" food. ;) I home cook because it's the best, safest and healthiest way to feed in my opinion. You definitely won't have any problem getting her to eat with real food. |
thanks thank you every body for your responses, i wanted to try with home cooked meal but i always readed that is bad for the yorkies and even my vet says it, but i really dont know how should i cook the meals for her or she can eat whatever a eat except grapes, chocolate, etc? but i give her every morning one scramble egg, the problem is that after she ate ''people food'' she doesnt want to touch again her dogs food, i think i had spoiled her a little bit |
As long as mine were getting some people food, and canned dog food, they were not eating kibble at all. I found the best thing is to get them used to the kibble without anything else at all. Once they have been eating the kibble fine for quite a while, then they can have an occasional treat of other food. I like the tiny kibbles like Solid Gold Wee bits and even Royal Canin, and Canidae Chicken & Rice All Life Stages has been a favorite of ours. Orijen is another top quality brand. You can home cook for your dog with very healthy results. Just get some good input about what all to include to ensure all health concerns are met. Yorkiedaze is a good one to ask for advice on that one. |
