my baby's liver enzymes are elevated My baby just got blood test done and her liver alt was elevated. The vet also put her on Denamarin for 30 days and then she has to get blood work again. Anyone else experience anything like this? |
What food do you feed? Just curious. |
Has she had a bile acids test? Yorkies are 36 times more likely to be born with a liver shunt than all other breeds combined. All Yorkies should have a bile acids test done when they are six months old. Portosystemic Shunts FAQ PSVA and MVD Research Summary |
Denamarin is a supportive therapy used for dogs with liver disease. Denamarin is ok but denosyl and Marin are preferred as separate drugs over the combo since it is optimal to give denosyl is to be given on a fast and Marin on a full stomach. Our dog has liver disease and she takes denosyl and Marin separately and is on moderate protein vegetarian diet as this works best for her. Most dogs with liver disease do very well on Hill's L/D which worked for us for a while then our dog could not tolerate the food due to her other medical problems. As ladymom said you need more information about what is going on with the liver and a simple bile acids blood test is one way to obtain more info. |
