Are Yorkies normally gassy? I'm sitting here with Tallulah and being asphyxiated by her SBDs. She's passed out after a full day of playing at Yorkie Camp. Ate well today and seems to be feeling fine. And of course she has to have her head on my shoulder so her rump is almost under my chin. I had to cover her with a blanket so I could breathe. She is eating mostly Cesar grilled chicken which the breeder had her eating. I will switch her gradually to a better quality food when her vet agrees she's well established enough not to be stressed by the switch. I wonder if that would help. |
Let's hope so! I have no experience with gassy pups (what with Kaji being my first dog) but, my old roomies pom was a gassy little fella. So is my friends dog, but she seems to wait till we're all in the car with the windows rolled up to "let em' rip." :rolleyes: |
Not that I know of. Gassy breeds are usually the bracheylhic (sp?) breeds like Pugs, French Bulldogs, Boston Terriers, Boxers, etc. I've honestly only smelled Jackson once in 2 years LOL. He is never gassy! |
Shouldn't be. Probably the diet (or slight chance of an intestinal problem). She may be pretty uncomfortable being gassy like this, so a food switch should be tried as soon as possible. |
when manolo was pregnant she was very gassy. here and there my yorkies fart. not over the top though, kinda like humans. |
I would attribute it to the food. The better quality the food the less gas. Gas is caused by things in the food that cannot be digested properly. It's like some humans get gassy when they eat alot of junk food, starches and things like that. My 4 dogs very rarely get gas, however, they take the blame for frequent gas...:rolleyes: |
Mine gets gassy if she eats REALLY fast, which she does every once in a while. Otherwise, naw. She does do the snorting thing though when she's excited. :P |

I don't think that it's the diet because I feed my two Yorkies the same food and only one of them is gassy (about 1 or 2 times a day) I think that it's probably how fast they eat or how the food affect each Yorkie individually. I hope that someone here have an answer Maria |
I've never noticed it w/any of my three...Apple used to burp, when she was on kibble, but doesn't even do that, since she's been on raw (over a year now)...I do have a client w/a big dog, that will clear a 3000 sq.ft. house, but she is a 13 year old Siberian Husky... |

Bubba, occasionally, has a slight gas problem. Sissy, rarely. Believe me I know gas problems, my grand daughter has 2 French Bulldogs and we drove from Delray Beach, Fla to Key West, Fla and back with them. I couldn't wait for pit stops just to get some fresh air. It smelled like something had died in that car. |
Switch the food. Different things get digested differently by each dog. You should not have a very gassy dog. One food may agree with one dog and not the other - that does not mean its the food - it just means that your dog digests it differently. Experiment - and you should be able to find the right blend. The premium dog foods will be better. Unless your puppy needs special attention, you should be able to switch his dog food after one month of him being on any new food. Obviously switch it slowly - mix old with the new for about 4 days - slowly introducing the new food where by the 4th day he is 100% on the new. Good luck! |
Thank you. She does eat really fast. I don't think she has intestinal problems at this point - she got up and wolfed down her evening meal, played like a little demon, and went to bed without complaint. So I suspect it was either from gulping air or she helped one or more of the other Yorkies at camp eat their afternoon meal. She is still working on her manners at camp.:) |
