He ate a pencil When I was at work last night, Rocco at a small pencil while he was home with my hubby and son. He vomited twice immediately after, and my husband picked out the pencil pieces to save for me. It looked like he got most of it up but I'm not sure. When I came home about 1 1/2 hours later (9:30pm), he was eating, drinking and was his playful self and fell asleep on me. Then he woke me up at 3:30 am to go out and had a very soft mushy stool. He woke up again at 5:30 frantically running in circles to go out...this time it was straight liquid. When he came in he was shaking a bit but was fine about 15 minutes later. He hasn't vomited or had a BM since, and is eating and drinking. I called the vet they said just to watch to make sure his BM's firm up. Anything else I should look for or be worried about seeing? Still panicking a bit here...:( |
I would watch that there is no blood in his stool or vomit. There could be a slight chance if there were any sharp pieces that they cut him n the way down. He will most likely be better today. These little babies sure know how to scare us. |
Thank you Patti. There has been no blood in stool or vomit. I just came home to check on him (he's been home about 2-3 hours) and he did a very loose poop (he was so neat about it and left it on my marble hearth instead of the wood floor!). It was about as loose as his first BM this morning, and not as bad as the liquid one at 5:30am. No blood, thank God. He seems ok otherwise, and I did just give him some more pumpkin to settle his belly. I hope you're right and he'll be just fine (fingers crossed). He has mommy worried sick. |
Very scary when our babies get into things. My friend's dog ate a wooden spoon and the vet told her to feed the dog white bread (like Wonder bread). Her dog was fine. I did the same when my dog ate part of a Christmas ornament! I guess the bread goes around any sharp edges. Hope all is well with your dog. |
Oh no I hope Rocco is okay! He will probably have loose stools until it all passes through, hope he gets better soon. :( |
Just saw this...hope Rocco is ok today! |
I'm just seeing this, too. I hope everything is ok. How is Rocco this morning? |
Thanks for checking on Rocco! I can't say he's back to himself yet, but he's doing a little better. I was away for 12 hours today in a training seminar so my hubby came home to check on Rocco. He had TWO accidents on the marble hearth again. He said one was pretty runny, the other just soft. My son saved his backyard poop today, and it was pretty soft but had some shape. Rocco's eating, drinking and playing so I'm not sure if it's an issue but how long should it take for his stools to return to normal? There's been no blood, and since he's pooping, I have to assume there's no blockage. I also fed him some more canned pumpkin last night and tonight. I pray my little peanut is ok. |
UPDATE: I'm a nervous wreck Ok, I thought Rocco was better, but now I don't know. He did a poop this morning that was pretty normal. Then tonight he had diarrhea again, twice . I fed him pumpkin again tonight...is it possible that's what's doing it? Also, I'm doing online research and freaking myself out, literally shaking with nerves here. I'm googling intestinal blockage, perforated intestine, etc. Right now, his only symptom is diarrhea (sometimes just soft stool, not always watery). He is eating very well, drinking, playing, being his usual self otherwise. Could he have something seriously wrong even though he's acting normal? I'll be calling the vet tomorrow for an appt, but am freaking out in the meantime. Any advice?? |
Pumpkin can also cause loose stools. Maybe hold off on the pumpkin for a day or two to see how he does. Pumpkin can be used for constipation and for running stools. Just a thought |

My doggie became a pooping nighmare from pumpkin. He hadn't gone in almost 2 days so I gave him some pumpkin. Well- he pooped all over the place for like 2 days after that. He woke up crying in his crate like 4 times a night and I could barely run into my bathroom and put him on a wee wee pad in time. He had absolutely no control. I was soooooo happy when he got back on track. It definitely helped him go and go and go and go. LOL |
