Weird little bump on Uni's head I noticed it a few days ago and it's been driving me mad. I'ts not getting any bigger, it doesn't seem to cause her any pain. It's the size of a big pimple, but no white head. I push it around and it goes back in place. I can't imagine it having always been there and me not notice it, that's just not likely, I know every inch of Uni. Vet said just what I thought. If it's not causing her pain and doesn't seem to be getting bigger, just keep an eye out until something changes. But it's bugging me. Do any of you think you may know what it is? I would take a pic, but it's just a skin colored bump, not red, or anything. I'm making myself think it's getting bigger, but then i reassess and I know it not. |
Bump! Sorry, no pun intended. |
Sophie had a big bump on her head right where her topknot is. I thought it was HUGE. Really worried me. Took her to the vet, and they tried to draw fluid from it to see if it was a cyst. Nothing came out. She said it was probably a bug bite and gave us some meds for it. It finally went down after several days. |
Uni's bump is the size of a big pimple. I don't think it's a bug bite. Don't know if it's a cyst. Doesn't seem like there would be fluid under there. It's hard like a rock. |
Kinda sounds like a follicular cyst. These start small, and can keep growing. They are usually hard, and movable. They are benign and can be left alone...for a while...or removed right away. When small enough, they can easily be removed with a biopsy punch, and then a tiny stitch is put in. Even though benign, it's a good idea to send it in for analysis. My Vet Derm says "if it's worth taking off, it's worth sending in" :). |
Thanks Ann, perhaps I will call my other vet and see what they say. using the biopsy punch is something they do without anesthesia? |

Types of hard bumps: Causes of Solid-Appearing Lumps & Bumps on the Skin of Dogs This list is a little overwhelming, but 'follicular cysts' is about 1/3rd of the way down :). |
LOL I *just* came from that site! I called the other vet, and they said same thing, if it gets bigger bring her in, but if it bugs me bring her in sooner, and it does really bug me. I'm gonna talk to bf about it. Well, scratch that, I'm going to tell him I'm going to bring her in. I don't want it to get bigger. Watch, he's gonna complain they cut her hair. Not the biggest of my problems. I would rather have her have a bald spot than a tumor growing on her head! |

I know you're going to hate me for this... you may want to wait and watch a bit longer.... my first Yorkie had 3 on her head.... they were removed all at the same time. They appeared at different times though, and never reappeared after they were removed, and no new ones showed up. |

My Bruno has the same thing... I'm always checking it. I'm worried if it should be taken off? He goes to be neutered in May. Maybe at the same time just take it off. |
