Meat diet only? We have a 3 year old Yorkie that we adopted - we love her but I'm afraid we already spoiled her - the former owners told us that she only likes meat - I try to give her wet food but now she only wants chicken, turkey, etc. I wind up throwing the wet food away and she'll only eat the real stuff. She also picks at our cat's stuff (which at least is Royal Canin but it's for CATS) - she's been getting some diarrhea also- do you think it's food related? We love her very much and want her to have a healthy happy life (which she did not have before) - HELP! |
Have you looked into the raw food diet? A dog can't "just eat meat" without it being properly balanced and formulated. Many feed PMR, a form of raw diet. Check out the site for more info: Dedicated to proper carnivore nutrition - Prey Model Raw Feeding for Dogs & Cats It takes alot of dedication and prep to feed a dog only raw meat. But a dog can definitely not survive on simply cooked meat with no supplements, etc. If you don't want to do the raw thing, get a few samples of some good kibbles. I'd recommend Orijen, Acana, Fromm, Nature's Variety, Wellness, Go!, etc. I think most offer samples. Put them all out in a few bowls, and just wait... it may take a day or two, but she will eventually eat. Tough love :) Or you could put real meat mixed in real good with the kibble! Also if she likes RC for cats, did you try the one for dogs? |
Thank you! I will look into these options! |
I feed both of my dogs raw. While it isn't just meat, I think your dog would like it. You need to include bones, organs, and then also the actual meat. |
I feed raw and kibble. You can get commercially prepared frozen raw that is already perfectly balanced, and just thaw it out as you need it. My dogs are crazy about it, even my picky eater. You can buy it at the boutique / specialty pet food stores. Good brands include Nature's Variety, Stella & Chewy's, and Primal. (There are probably more great brands, these are probably the most common/readily available, off the top of my head). |
