Round two...raw diets and dentals for the kids

Yesterday was a no go with the Primal Beef. Anakin and Bella licked it and walked away. Lace ate the whole thing. I was told because they didnt really try it to heat it up for a few seconds when first transitioning

Today we tried the duck...they all loved it! I'm so happy I got the starter pack that has 4 different flavors. :D

All three of the puppies had dentals today...it went very well. The person doesn't have to put them under which made me happy and a little scared because I didn't want the pups to be scared and hurt. She came to the house and sat on the floor with them and as soon as they were done they were running around happy.

Kim - I feed Primal Duck the majority of the time too, and my crew LOVES it :). So glad to hear it went well, that's always exciting.

I'm almost done my first bag of raw so I think I'll do Primal duck for my next bag:)

BTW, how do they do a dental without putting the dog down? That's the part I was most nervous about when Bandit had his first dental done.

It is called gental dentistry. I didn't know how it worked either but I figured I would try it. The lady came in and sat on the floor with the pups and first she gave them some drops that are for calming and sprayed the area with another calming spray. She used a few tools and polished them up and they were done. She even took out a few loose teeth and the pups barely noticed. I would do it again, the pups teeth look 100 times better and smell awesome. We are going to continue to brush and give petzlife and get dentals done once a year. :)

Awesome. I tried the other varities yesterday and they all loved it. Now I just need to figure out where to buy it. :) They have it online for $20 a bag but it is $134 for overnight shipping....hahaha...that doesnt even make sense. Maybe I can get a place here to order it, they only order one or two varities at a time.

I've found that specialty pet boutiques are usually willing to accomodate their customers. I would bet they would be willing to order it for you!

Glad your pups got happy w/the duck...When I started introducing new proteins, sometimes they would stop and sniff, a few seconds, before eating...Now they're on a rotation of Primal Duck, Lamb, Pheasant, Venison, Quail, Beef & Chicken...I'm so fortunate that my vendor can get all of the proteins available...And I do put their little plates (stainless, of course) under the kitchen cabinet lights, for a few seconds, to take the chill off...Once you've fed duck, for a while, I bet you'll be able to give all the proteins...

So i can't find anyone locally that has the primal duck. I did find a person that delivers the Stella and chewy's duck duck goose for a little over $16 a bag. Is that a good food and price?
Thank you

I bought a bag of Primal Duck yesterday and I'm so disappointed- Jackson didn't seem to like it! :( When I first used S&C, he sniffed it for about 10 seconds, and then basically devoured it quickly. I gave him 2 nuggets of Primal this AM and he did the sniffing them for a lot longer... then ate one little nugget, picked up the other and went and dropped it on the floor. :( Maybe I'll have to try smooshing it up tomorrow.

I smoosh our nuggets up with a fork. Maybe sprinkle a little parmesan cheese, yogurt, or canned pumpkin on top?

Honestly, Brit...I think S&C's must have more fat in it, because Apple really blossomed out on it...Since switching to Primal, she's lost those extra ounces...Maybe that's why Jackson likes it better? Smooshing :D lol...

We tried Stella and Chewy's yesterday and they love it. :) I am going to get regular orders sent to my house and we are going to feed 100% raw if all works out. :) I hope they gain a little weight while we are at it... Just to fill out.

I, too, would like more info on the gentle dentistry. This is someone who comes to your house? Is she a vet? A homeopathic vet? What credentials does she have. If I can have good dentals done without having to sedate mine, I would do it too! I just have never heard of this. Sounds so much easier on the pups if it is as effective then I have got to find one!

Is this the one? http://www.gentlepetdental.com/dentals.php I searched online for our area and cannot find anything similar. :(

Zoey has been eating Primal since I got her. She started to not care for it lately so I bought (I think this is the name) Natural Variety. It is raw also. I tried rabbit and Zoey likes it. I also got a package of beef. You can go online and print out a coupon for BOGO which is an excellent bargin. It's the big bags. With the rabbit her little poops are even smaller. Yea!

This is the pups second full day on the stella and chewy's duck duck goose and they are doing great. i have been mixing it, but they refuse to eat the kibble now. I am hoping this will help the two younger pups gain some weight and I've been giving them a little bit extra.
I found a person that delivers right to your door!! :D This is excellant for me because I work nights he can drop it off when I get home from work in the morning. I am ordering our next batch and we are going to get one of each variety so I can switch it up from day to day. :) I calculated it out and it is going to run me about $130 a month for the pups. Not too bad.

I was told by the vet and a dog trainer in regards to pups on raw to be sure they are getting enough protein. The protein in the raw is usually abourt 15 - 17 % and pups need a much higher protein for proper bone development. So, I bought a bag of Holistic puppy food that is about 29% protein and I leave a bowl for Zoey to munch on. She doesn't always eat it but sometimes she finishes off the bowl in one day. If not, I leave it until it is gone.

Raw meat is almost all protein :)

You have to convert it into dry matter basis because raw food is inclusive of water. I don't remember the formula but it's been posted on here quite a bit. Once you convert it it's something like ~40%.
