Gum health, teeth cleaning Hi everyone.. just wanted some advice with dental health. Mason is going to be six soon... his teeth were in good shape but last year my vet advised me get his teeth cleaned. Mason did not respond well to the anesthesia so I am hesitant to do it again. Im not consistent with brushing but Im using this spray foam and a liquid that goes in his water... Do you think this is enough? Do you all recommend the teeth cleaning every few years? |
What happened with the anesthesia? My vet said that most small dogs require dentals yearly to every few years but it depends on the dog and how well you keep up with brushing. If your dog is prone to bad teeth keep up the brushing, it will reduce the amount of dentals that are required. I've been TRYING to do the spray daily and brush every 3 days. Nala's teeth are great, but Bandit (who has already had a dental) aren't. |
i found this article online, take a look, it has pretty good information. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...gram-dogs.html |
What kind of anesthesia and what happened? Daily brushing is strongly recommended. Yearly cleaning is necessary at time, but with good homecare, it can usually be done less often. But then some Yorkies get enough build up to justify one every 6 months. Depends on the dog and the owner. |

The only thing she won't tolerate is vibration (like SoniCare). Anyway, I'm a big believer in making (most) doggies deal with things even when they don't like it so that their dogtors will be able to handle them easier (and me too when I have to give drugs, etc.). So she just isn't given a choice. |
My 4 month old Yorkie will let me do almost anything to him except clean his teeth! I've tried using my little finger with toothpaste on but he really creates. My vet said it's probably because his mouth is so tiny and just to leave it for now, but I don't want him developing problems. Advice please!! |
Well there's the popular petzlife, but Im still not convinced since there have been users here who say they don't see any difference. However, there is something similar called plaq clnz gel that claim they are the only real gel product that cleans tartar without using a toothbrush. They currently giving out samples and I got my little bottle sample last week and have started to use it. It's a little early but I think I see some of the brown/yellow stains shows signs of lightening. I will know more in the weeks to come so I will post back. Heck it's free so why not give it try... PlaqClnz the New Oral Cleansing System for Dogs and Cats. |
