Question re: what food to feed after liver shunt surgery So Calvin had his liver shunt surgery and has to eat l/d for six months. Before his surgery I was feeding him and Bella Wellness. They dont seem to really care for it so I was going to switch them to Acana. My question is after Calvin is done with the l/d will he be able to eat the Acana. Obviously its easier if I can get them on the same food but I dont know if it is too much protein for his liver? I was just wondering for dogs that have had liver shunt surgery what do you fee them now? |

Some LS surgeons let the owner pick a new food and others have them stick with the L/D or LS 14. Only they can give you a range of protein. Personally, I would not feed a repaired shunt dog Acana. |

Thats what I thought. Thank you. |

I would stick with the LS 14 (and use the LD occasionally as a lil treat or something) unless he is having a reaction to the corn in the food. My Ginger has been eating the LS14 since last Sept/Oct and does well on it. She had the surgery but they did not find a shunt (she have MVD) but a lot of her lab values were WAYYY off the charts so I like to keep on her as little protein as possible. |
