Pup Urinating on accident & limping Hi all! I am new to the YT! Thanks for having me! I actually found you guys b/c I was researching some symptoms my yorkie mix has been experiencing tonight.... Even though she isnt a full blood yorkie (her daddy was a silky yorkie and her momma a tri-colored chihuahua) she is more yorkie than anything which means she also has some of the same issues it seems, as other yorkies do. She is 1.5 yrs old and was diagnosed with Stage III luxating patella in both of her hind knees. We did surgery in April but it seems as though it didnt "take" so she is due back in on 9/27 to have it repaired...again. This evening she had been acting a little strange. I have noticed this week especially that she has been struggling to walk/run/jump. After watching very closely it seems as though the leg she is limping on is the leg that hasnt been repaired yet. Now that leg, I was told wasnt nearly as severe as the one we did surgery on. This evening she seemed like she couldnt get comfy, going from spot to spot. She finally got down out of our bed (which she NEVER does at night) and came into the living room and hid behind the furniture but not settling down. She went from spot to spot, hiding behind things and limping with that same leg (the one that hasnt been worked on) almost like she couldnt use it at all. I gave her some pain meds and it seems to have helped a little. THen she climbed onto her pillow and all the sudden pees on herself. SHe acted as though she didnt realize she had done it b/c she jumped up then hid again thinking she had been bad. Can someone......anyone help me?!! Is urinating on accident and hiding typical behavior for something like this? Or should I take her to the ERVet? |
Poor little thing. I would get her in to the vet asap. That kinda reminds me of when I was going to have to have knee surgery. First off he was going to try the shots and put it in the knee that was the worst. The next few days the other knee got a whole lot worse, to the point I could hardly walk. Sounds almost like that is what she is going through, a kind of pain referal, I think they call it. Sympathizes with the hurt leg or knee. She was probably in alot of pain the reason she tee teed. I am certainly no professional in knowing anything but it would be better I would think to just be there when the vet opens. Hope she gets the help she needs. Bless her little heart, it is so hard seeing them sick or hurting. My heart goes out to you too. |
Thank you Sandy!! She is my fist little dog and I have come to realize they are SO much different than the larger dogs, for many reasons. I am devestated that she is having to go through SO much at such a young age. What makes me even angrier is that the lady I got her from allowed both of those dogs to breed again and have another litter after me telling her about my Sophia's knee issue!!!! and to boot, she sells them for $300 with no papers, no vacs and no worming. Unreal how greedy people can be!!! |
Years ago when I got my first little female schnauzer, I did not know the difference in a backyard breeder and a breeder that does all it take to enhance the breed and really cares. It makes a difference to do your homework and know the breeder or someone that gives them a good reference. We have 2 yorkies and 2 schnauzers. All of them are from show quality except my one little female that just turned 13. We came so close to losing her because of this money hungry person that didn't care one way or the other. If she had not had the care we gave her and a wonderful vet she would not have lived. Your little one is so fortunate to have you and care for her. I hope things work out and if so even get a second opionion if you don't feel confortable. |
