Question about teeth and spaying My Chloe turned 6 months last week and Claire will be 6 months next week. I have been waiting to get them spayed until their adult teeth come in. It looks like Claire have I think and Chloe still has 2 front bottom puppy teeth. My problem is I can't tell I'm not sure about the fangs if they are puppy or adult and how to tell. i want to get any double teeth pull when they go under. Does anyone know where I can view pictures so I can make sure? I'm worried because I have a male springer spaniel that lives behind me and I don't know the people or if he is fixed. I have a thick huge hedge and chain link fence but my pups have made a tunnel and have started going under and barking at him and that worries me. I don't want to take any chance. Should I keep them on a leash when they go out I haven't seen any evidence of them being in heat yet? |
It's a good idea to do so if you do not have a fence and sometimes even if you have a fence. As for puppy teeth, Hot Rod was fixed at 6 1/2 mos and had double teeth by that time. He wound up have 14 teeth removed. We had bloodwork on Friday previous to his neuter and the vet told me to wrestle some toys with him over the weekend, lol. Just as an fyi, I would talk with your vet about pain meds for after, especially if they wind up have teeth removed. I wish I had as he didn't get any pain meds. :( The vet said that he should need them but I think he was in some pain and discomfort. Best of luck with your little girls. :) |
I have a Chi I am fostering that is 6 months as well. The k-9 teeth have a curve look to them. But do not worry when they go into have the spay the vet will pull the puppy teeth out. Just make sure you bring it to the Dr attention. They did not pull Freddies (the chi Im fostering) they said he was to young. (at 6 months ) So maybe ask if you should wait until they are a bit older. I would watch the babies closely while out side around other dogs (male) you can tell when they are in heat when there little teats swell a bit and so does there Female Parts. Good luck. Maybe a little chicken wire around the back of your yard that they go through will stop them from making there way through to the other dog. I have heard some vets like to wait until the dog is done with there first heat before spay or neautering them. I was not going to wait but my Sadie was so tiny they waited until she was almost 1 yr. old but was just coming out of her heat.they pulled her two k9's then. Good luck |

Thank you for the advise. I will make sure I get pain meds for them. Claire has to have one of her dew claws removed because it is hanging to. I have pet insurance that will go in effect in a few week that they told me would cover the teeth removal but no other part. |
Here is a site where you can see what teeth they should have. As for the "fangs", those are the canines and if they are doubled, it is easy to tell since there should only be two on the top and two on the bottom. Canine Teeth |
