Switched to Nature's Variety I have been feeding Taycie Blue Buffalo and she had done wonderful on it but I have been wanting to try something different. I went with Nature's Variety Prairie. I picked the bag up and she went CRAZY. I have never seen her get that excited! She smelled it and started licking and chewing on the bag! I was shocked she has never done that! So Tonight I gave her some along with Blue Buffalo and she was soooooo excited ate the entire bowl and she hasn't done that in a VERY long time... I think she was just board!... When I was there they also carry the Nature's Variety Raw diet which now has me thinking.... The lady at the store was so incredibly helpful and she had nothing but wonderful things to say about raw... which has me thinking... I am not against it at all its just going to take me some time to get used to the idea... Which makes me again always concerned about protein... I know that if they are eating the RIGHT kind of protein its ok and its good for them! But then I also read things about High protein diets how harmful to the little toy dogs... I just wish I knew what to believe... |
Izzy has been eating the raw from natures variety.... She get 1-1.5 in the morning then the dry food in the evening... SHE LOVES IT!!!!! as for what kind of protien....just get the same protien that's in the dry food and she should be fine... Unless she has some condition that she needs to watch her protien intake... then she should be fine.. There are ALOT of members here that feed raw and love it... You will here different opinion on high vs. low protien... you have to see whats best for your furbaby ;) Izzy has not eaten this well EVER.. before the raw she was driving me nuts.. dumping her food over...walking away after smelling it....picking some up in her mouth then dropping on the floor and looking at it...etc... she is really picky... But she really loves this stuff and that makes me happy :) |

I love the idea of you incorporating the raw with the dry! I seriously might to this as well! Do you have any tips before I start?..The lady at the local pet store had nothing but rave reviews about the raw!... I might actually try it!!!! I have never seen Taycie get SO EXCITED for food unless its a treat :)... This alone makes me so happy! |
She is 6 months old as of today!... does her age matter when feeding raw? |
6 months is great... I wouldn't start a raw food before that age. I started by giving one in the morning...nothing special...Then left out her dry all, that's all :) |
Lots of breeders wean their puppies onto raw. After all, it is what they eat in the wild. There is no "wrong age" to start raw. :) We feed raw and we love it! Taycie will love it and you will love how great it is for her. I personally wouldn't feed Nature's Variety pre-made though, just because there have been some controversies in the past about the quality of meat. NV uses a denaturant in their food - it's a charcoal additive that marks the meat a grey-ish color so that humans know not to eat it. It's marked as "unfit for human consumption" which is not cool by me.. my babies get the best! The only company that I know of that for sure doesn't use a denaturant is Primal but I think that Bravo and Stella and Chewy's are also great brands. |

Well I may have to rethink Primal for now... I don't have easy access to it... I'm going to have to ask my local pet store about maybe bring it in to our store. They are privately owned and are pretty good about it :) So I guess for now she's straying on NV. |
