skin and coat supplements? Hey? Does anybody add and skin and coat supplements to their yorkie's food? Kate and Gypsy |
I don't and my yorkies have a great coat. Obviously every dog is different but I think if you give them a very good dog food fortified with all the necessary vitamins - you shouldn't need any extras. But that's just my opinion - I am anxious to hear everyone's response. |
It is odd, because she is 4 years old and this is the first time in her life she has been itchy. . . Anyways, I bought some Omega 3-6-9 oil (for dogs) to add to her food. We started this morning with a half tsp. Hopefully we can get her up to 1 full tsp, twice a day. I kind of wonder if she has developed some seasonal allergies this year--mine have been terrible. The vet actually recommended we try benedryl, but my breeder said that her skin looked a little dry, so I thought I would try some natural supplements first. |
i use nordic omega 3 oil. |
I give Edie a fish oil capsule every morning when I take mine! She loves it---she chews the capsule and swallows the whole thing. I can tell a difference in her skin (not her coat) when she does not have it for a while. Her skin is pink when she is on fish oil....it turns darker when she is not on it. |
Halo DreamCoat I just started Taycie on DreamCoat which is a food supplement made by Halo! I can tell you how much I love it and she is doing wonderful with it! I LOVE it! I started 2 weeks ago and as her coat has been changing into and I can see more and more of her adult coat coming in... its looks soooo pretty! Love it! won't go without it! |
I give both fish oil and coconut oil. |
We stopped using any supplements when we started raw but I loved Ark Naturals Royal Coat Express! |

Venture skin and coat supplement? Thanks for all of your postings. I used to give cocoanut oil, but my/our routine has gotten out of wack since I started a new job. I had picked up Omega 3-6-9 oil byt Omega Alpha called shiny coat, so I have started her (very slowly) on that this week. My breeder just gave me something called Venture Skin and Coat Supplement--She said she got it for free at a show this past weekend. It is a ground powder that you mix in with something wet and put in the their food (it looks like ground flax seed). I may try putting that in too. The Website is www.venturesupp.com Has anyone ever heard of it or used it? Kate and Gypsy |

Remember to supplement w/ 10 IU vitamin E when giving dogs fish oils. Ark Naturals Royal actually has the E already in it, which is nice :). I'm giving coconut oil right now, and the kiddos love it. |

From Dr. Shawn Messionier (love that vet! :)). Here is the relevant quote: "Extra vitamin E is needed when giving fish oil on a regular basis as fish oil supplemented for many months can lower vitamin E levels" |
We feed only Omega 3 fatty acids to our dogs and use Nordic Naturals - 1 capsule every day for a therapeutic dose for our 7.8, 7.8, and 8.8 lb yorkies. We feed home cooked and do add additional oils to balance other items of the diet per our nutritionist's recommendations. Only our Daisy is limited to consumption of only omega 3s although she can sometimes tolerate EV coconut oils which are beneficial for her IBD. She unfortunately is not balanced in linoleic acid but for her medical status, this is the least of my concerns. |
