How much food do you feed? And which brand? Zoe eats about 3/4 cup of Puppy Chow daily. The breeder started her on this and now that's the only brand she likes. She's 6 months old and I wonder if this is possibly too much or the wrong brand since she's so chubby? |
I free feed (leave a full bowl out 24/7) and I feed Life's Abundance Premium Health Food. (see link in siggy) :) Works great for us! |

I would look in the Health section: Yorkie Health & Diet - YorkieTalk.com Forums - Yorkshire Terrier Community And there is a sticky on pet foods I believe. There are a lot better puppy foods to feed your little one than Purina Puppy Chow. |
I would definitely never recommend or feed Puppy Chow. The ingredients are pretty much the worst of the worst. I feed Jackson 1/2 cup total per day of Acana Grasslands, and occasionally will up it to 3/4 cup per day if he's extra active (and he's really active in general). He weighs 15lbs and is almost 2. For a puppy, 3/4 cup may be appropriate, especially for a lower quality feed. Higher quality foods, you typically feed less of. Food recommendations, I love Acana and Orijen the best. You can go to their website and type in your zip code to find stores closest to you. You can find Wellness and Blue Buffalo at Petsmart now which are great foods. Petco offers other higher quality foods such as Solid Gold, Natural Balance, and By Nature. All of which are great improvements from Puppy Chow. My top brands of food I'd feed are Acana/Orijen, Nature's Variety Instinct and Go! Endurance. |

I am wondering what breeder would feed Purina Puppy Chow???? I would have thought a good breeder would feed a better quality food than Purina. |

As for the question about food~I feed Natural Balance Lamb and Brown Rice Kibble. My three are all in the 11-12 lb range and are 2 to 3 years old~they each get 1/4 cup twice a day. :) |
Thanks for the suggestions. We are on vacation but I'll check to see if there are any stores in this area that carries those brands. My daughter feeds her's Pedigree. Is that a good or bad brand? |
We free feed both of our Yorkies. They are on Go Natural! This brand or Orijen sound really good with no corn or other fillers. Orijen is higher in protein which I understand is not so good for Yorkies and Go Natural is only about 21% protein, if I remember properly. When we got our little Mabel the breeder told us to feed her Science Diet. As soon as I looked at the ingredients I put her on Go Natural and she is thriving on it. |

"Pedigree's 4 main ingredients are ground whole wheat, ground whole corn, meat & bone meal and animal fat preserved with BHA. BHA is a preservative (Butylated hydroxyanisole) which may actually be a carcinogen. Other common ingredients include chicken by-product, rice, flavoring, salt, wheat mill run and artificial colors." So, it is not much different than the Purina dog foods. They are both low quality foods. |
I have seen Wellness food recommended on YT and I believe that is available at Petsmart, Petco etc. They do have a puppy formula. |

Go! Natural Endurance is around 33% protein. But there's a few different versions of Go. |
