Erection Problem Chloe' was fixed at 15 weeks. He is walking around so uncomfortable, then I noticed why. This is happening too often, like 5 times a week. Should I bring him to the Vet, or is this normal. He's going to be 3, Its just me and him in the house and he's a house dog. Thanks for your help. I need it. I don;t know what to do for him except ignore him, but I feel sorry that he can not walk. |
? Sorry, maybe I do not understand. But what are you asking? |
Evidently he is humping a toy or blanket. Find out what it is and take it away. If you catch him doing this correct him and remove the object of his affection. This can cause serious injury if it is ignored. Exercise him more to keep him tired. A good walk or play twice a day. |
My maltese was fixed but he still had a favorite bunny that he liked to . . . spend time with. He looooved that bunny. Until, one day, it got thrown in the washing machine. Poor Casper. He never had another close friend like that. |
thanks but he wakes up with one. Toys are not the problem... this is happening very natural for him. Yes if he was humping something I would take it away, but he's not. (at these times) sometimes he gets up from lying down and he looks crippled and I say what's wrong and sure enough it's there.... That's why I am worried. I did say to the vet when he asked how he's doing that he gets up with it and he smiled and walked away, I think I embarrassed him.... :( |
If he was castrated then he should not have an erection, right? You should see the vet and speak in clear terms to him. |

I would ask the vet again and also google it. |
You are funny sometimes I think my boyfriend that died of cancer was reborn a dog. Like my Chloe. What a wish that would be for a man....My dog looks at me the same way Howie did.... Quote:

After I had both boys neutered Doodlebug who was 6 months at the time had a full erection. He was out in the yard with Bogey and would not come when I called him and was standing funny. Boy was I shocked when I went to pick him up! He was fully erect and looked like he was in pain and frightened out of his mind! I brought him in the house and put him into the kitchen sick with cold water~guess it wasn't cold enough and it didn't go down. So I called the vet concerned about his "condition" and he told me to bring him in. Before I left, I decided to put him into the shower~I held him in the stream of cold water and he started to swim in the air but it worked 'cause POOF it was gone:p Bogey still brings out his lipstick a couple times a week and does not have a love toy either. It's been a few years since he was neutered and it only peeks out~nothing like what happened with Dbug and I have never needed to resort to the shower swimming either. It is all natural and part of being a dog. I would guess with a little more time he will not be able to get a full erection and only occasionally have just a small part peek out. |
I will not touch this one! |

Oh my, I thought after all hormones are out of the system it would be impossible to get an erection, especially if the surgery was early. I can see that they will get excited with their beloved toys but waking up with a "woody"? |
I think you make alot of sense. This dog sees no one but me we live in a condo on the beach, Its white inside, he never get dirty. I don't let him run around in grass or dirty places. He looks picture perfect until he starts to walk. Its happened every day this week. Its a little too much for me, but he sounds like he's normal for a dog. But I will call the vet's sister on Monday she answers the phone.... LOL Quote:

Just in case you do run into problems, this thread is worth reading. It turned out to be pretty funny, IMO, but informative at the same time: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...-lipstick.html |

Thor's sometimes comes out a little bit after a nap. I think it does matter how erect it is - if it's really out, which it sounds like it is if he can't walk, that could be a health problem. Your vet should really be enough of a grown up to discuss it. Is it maybe that some hair is getting caught, preventing it from receding? You can try gently pulling the skin back over it, and cut the hair on the end very short. If it keeps happening, I would talk to another vet who learned about ALL parts of the canine anatomy. ;) |

If the pup appears to be in pain with it, it would be a good idea to see the vet. There is a condition called priapism that involves the blood being unable to drain back out of the penis. |

Have a good Vet check him out for bladder stones. And not just looking for crystals in a urine sample. An xray or now they may do ultrasound but you could be looking for stones too large to be passed. I had a male many years ago with that problem and it was bladder stones causing it. They must be treated by surgery or if the dissolvable kind, by diet, if that is the case. |

That picture did not look real! I had to go back and read the thread. It is a funny thread! |
Apologies for hijacking this thread w/my own story, but my little Buzzy Boy is 14 months old, not nuetered, and doesn't have erections...He also doesn't hump anything, anytime...When he first came home (4 mo. old) he tried humping Apple, for the first couple of days, and she wasn't having any part of it...She told him no, in no uncertain terms, and he stopped...It's never happened again...All his equipment has dropped into the right place, so I don't know why this is?...I'm just glad it is lol... |
