Pancreatitis My little yorkie was diagnosed with pancreatitis. Now another vet is not so sure she has that. About every 3-4 months she gets diahhera with vomiting (yellow bile). Any suggestions on what I should feed her? What has others found to help their dogs with pancreatitis? |
The Spec cPL is 95%+ accurate. What were her results? What type of food do you want (kibble, canned, etc.)? Since fat needs to be extremely restricted, a lot of times rx diets are recommended. |
I don't know what that Spec CPL is. I do feed her a little of both, canned and dry kibbles. Vet is recommending she go with their prescription food, but she did not like it when she was at the vets office. Thank you! |
Correction: her lipase and amylase were elevated but her Spec cPL was only 30. Her vet seemed to think this might be because she was starting to get better and 3 days out from the attack. I'm just confused. Her first two vets say pancreatitis, the latest says he's not so sure. |
Is the test for pancreatitis a blood test and does it have to be done during an attack? |
It is a blood test, and I'm not sure whether or not it can be done anytime, or just during an attack. I have to question the vet more, I guess. |
I think all the vets have good reasons to say yes it was and no it wasn't. I'd test in the middle of an episode next time. An ultrasound can sometimes help with this diagnosis too. I think Natural Balance has some really low fat kibbles if she won't eat the rx food. It really depends on the individual dog. Some rx foods are formulated for this though and they may work well in this case. Does this happen after eating any particular food or treat? |
