trying raw with kibble I have been giving Winston bones from the butcher that had a little meat on them and he loved it. Today I gave him raw chicken and he went crazy. It seems after he has eaten he settles right down and is in a satisfied mood. Like us after a big meal. He has been eating his kibble at night and I would like to keep it that way. Will let you know how things go in the next few weeks. |
I feed both raw and kibble. Raw in the morning, because I KNOW they will eat it immediately and get something on their tummies after fasting all night, then they graze on kibble the rest of the day. |
which part of the chicken do you feed raw; do you get it from the market or butcher? |
were I get the raw I got the beef bones from a local butcher, he was really nice about it, gave me the ones he had cut steaks off of. The local Kroger Market gave me a couple of small beef bones with meat on them. It was the small bones of the beef. The chicken I bought at Krogers. I bought chicken wings and cut them up from wing and little drum then put them in plastic bags and in the freezer. That way I can take out a little at a time. He gets kibble the rest of the time and veggies. At this point I am feeding him raw couple of times a week to see how it goes. Three wks ago he weighed 2.8 this morning at the vets 18 wks he weighed in at 4 lbs!!! he sure doesn't feel like 4 lbs. hubby and I couldn't believe it. |
Hello, fully raw feeder here, going in 2 years. :) Just to pitch in a little: 1. Beef bones are not safe for dogs of any size. It's too dense, and can crack dogs' teeth. The most I would give my Mocha and Lulu are pig bones, and not any weight-bearing bones. Baby back ribs, pig feet, pig tails are all superb. 2. By cutting the wings into pieces you are making it unsafe for your dogs. Feed whole pieces - wings, thighs, breasts are awesome. I get my meat from supermarkets or traditional markets with butchers. I look for sales - sometimes they have promotions on chicken breasts and it will cost less than whole chickens! Since guidelines for raw is 80% meat, 10% bones, 5% liver and 5% other organs, it's a catch! Just my 2 cents :) |
