can a yorkie get sick from sadness? We got our dog the first day of my summer vacation. I teach, so I've spent every day with Dinky since we got him. We have left him alone for about 4 hours at a time a the most. He doesn't like it, but he does not freak out. He just stays in his crate. We have noticed that when I leave him with hubby that he gets sad and lonely. Now I've spent two days this week at school, and DInky is doing terrible. Even though my husband is home, Dinky is just pining away all day. He won't eat, drink, or play at all until I get home. Now that I'm home, he's had water, food, and is playing happily. Has anyone else had a yorkie go through this kind of adjustment? I'm assuming that he will adjust eventually, but will it be sooner or later? Can he get sick from not eating and drinking for 10 hours at a time? |
It sounds like he has seperation anxiety... You might want to take him to the Vet and she if he'll put Dinky on any kind of medication. He might not be able to get 'sick' but he can become hypoglycemic - meaning that the lack of wanter and food has caused his blood sugar to drop. This can be really dangerous in this breed because of how small they are... I hope everything works out! |
Does your husband play with him?Can he try giving treats or going for walks, so they can bond?Best of luck |
He walks him, carries him around, takes him everywhere. He gives him treats. In fact, I'm more strict about treats and handouts than he is. I really hope that DInky just needs to adjust. He ate well tonight (once I was home). Tomorrow, we do it again! |
Can you leave your shirt in his crate so he has your scent? Maybe that would help a little? |
