just got neutered!! need some advice i just got Toby neutered early this morning and got him back around 5 pm. he was a bit groggy when i first got him but in about 2 hours he now wants to run around jump and play which is what he isnt supposed to do. he also got 12 teeth extracted so i figured he wouldnt be feeling up to much. With as much as he wants to play and run around, what complications should i look for just in case he overdoes it? |
You need to not let him over do it for a couple of days. Look for swelling , bleeding or oozing and make sure he doesn't try licking or chewing at the area. Also make sure to keep him away from any females that could be in heat. |
Oh my! Poor baby. Make sure to keep him crated or in an area where he can't run/jump. Keep an eye on any attemp to lick/bite the area where the operation occurred. When feeding, crush his kibble and put water on it to avoid hurting his mouth. If he won't eat his kibble try feeding Nutrical. Hope Toby feels better soon! |
definitely keep him quite for a few days. Although he may feel up to jumping and running, it may not be good for the stitches or glue. Good luck, when they want to go, they wanna go! lol |
You got alot of great advice here..Its ok for him to do some walking the first few days, but the jumping and running will put stress on the incision site. Keep him crated if possible and let him out to walk, stretch, potty and eat. As stated, watch for swelling, reddness, excess drainage, fever or refusing to eat or drink. The anesthesia can have an opposite effect on some of these little guys and make them hyper...he may be a little more low keyed today. Let us know how he recovers. Nutrical twice daily is good if his mouth is too sore to eat. It will sustain his blood glucose. |
