When do the testicles drop? Tucker is 14wks today and there is no sign of his testicles. I called the vet and they said that they usually drop between 3 and 4 months and he is 3.5.. Is there something wrong? I have felt him and I do not feel any sign of them..What should I do? |
hi there is a post in the breeder section on this subject you might find interesting. your vet should be able to feel weather or not his testicals are there or not if they are not this could be what is known as cryptorchidism but you really should have your vet check him out in case it's something else. if it is cryptorchidsm you should have him nutered , i just had my male nuetered last week because of this and he is fine now, there is a higher risk of cancer if it is not taken care of. lynne |
Im not sure. But Im sure your vet can tell you more. |
The testicles don't drop till later but you should definitely be able to feel them at this age. |
Ok, Don't laugh at me as this is the first male dog that I have ever owned, but my neighbor came over and told me that I was feeling in the wrong spot, but he was able to feel them and said that he was fine..The vet said that they should drop between 3 and 4 months so we will see..My husband has been making fun of me for not knowing the correct position of testicles and wondering how we ever got our 2 children.... |
Be sure to ask your breeder about possible delays that run in his genetics. I have a yorkie that had a sire that didn't descend until he was almost a year old and had I not known that when I took him in for his vet visit around 6 months of age, I would have wound up getting him neutered by the advice of the vet. The vet could not feel anything at all...I couldn't either. On occasion it was possible to feel them up in the abdomen, but not very often. The vet told me that it was very unlikely that he would descend. I decided that I would give it until he was a year old before I would neuter him based on his genetic delay. Glad I did....he's 11 months old and now fully descended. :) |
My Keno only had one testicle drop, so the vet recommended we go ahead and have him fixed. He said there could be a high risk of cancer if we didn't. |
Mac only had 1 testical drop the other was in his abdomen. The vet did recomend that he be neutered however we waited until he was a year old so that Mellie could be spayed at the same time. |
Wyat is 3 1/2 months and his have not dropped, but I can feel them. I'm not sure when they will drop. Hopefully someone on here will be able to tell you something. I would really love to know as well. |

Dollars either |
Neutering I took my yorkie to the vet today he is 4 months and she said he should be neutered because his testicle aren't detectable. Is he still too young? How old should he be when I have him neutered? |
Hes old enough to be neutered. The neuter is a little more complicated for them if the testicles havent descended but its done all the time |

I can feel Jett's testicles, but not sure if they have dropped??? How can you tell????? LOL. Yes I have had male dogs before but not one so tiny. |
Ok, and this is another question....sorry for hyjacking your thread. But.....now this sounds stupid, but when the penis comes out, does that mean he is reaching sexual maturity?? I have noticed several times the 'red rocket' poking out.....(I remember noticing this on Kahn, but he was much older and much bigger, by the time the rocket made its first appearance??? Or does this happen at any age??? Jett is 15+ weeks |

Here's a pic of un-neutered Jackson, you can see 'em in all their glory. :p:p |
My Yorkie is 6 months today and just this past week I have started seeing his "red rocket" peeking out when I pick him up when he's excited because I'm home from work! |
I never see Buzz' lipstick, and I'm, totally, good w/that lol...Also, buzz got his kahunas had his kahunas, when I got him at 4 months old....He's 19 months old now...But, I got the most beautiful Rhodesian Ridgeback, from show parents, for a lot less money, because he only had one testicle...He was 3 or 4 months old...At about 9 months, it dropped, so go figure! |
Sweet, I have a beauty of a Rhodesian Ridgeback too!! Not a very common breed!! She does not have testicles though......LOL |
Gizmo's testicles didnt drop until 7 months!! The vet tried to talk me into having him do abdominal surgery. I said no way!! I'm glad i did because Gizmo would of been too tiny to have the surgery done earlier and wayyyyy more $$$$$!!!! Im getting him fixed the first week of march! Im so happy i waited he was just a late bloomer :) Good luck and go with your instincts! |
