Do they make doggie Valium? Roxie had a major freakout last night, and I have no idea why. Usually we put her in her little crate/house before we go to bed. She doesn't usually put up a fuss at bedtime. Last night, when DBF tried to put her to bed, she barked, growled, and bit him! He decided to leave her out of the house and go to bed. Around 2am she began barking like mad. DBF got up to see what her problem was. He took her out, just in case she had to potty, but even after that she continued to bark angrily at him. I came down and we cornered her so I could pick her up. I held her for a bit, and I thought she had calmed down. I tried to put her in her house and she bit me too! Between the two of us we finally got her in the house and got the door zippered. We went back to bed and she continued to bark for another 30 minutes at least. What the heck happened? What could have possibly caused this freakout? What can I do next time to handle this kind of thing better? |
Did you check to see if anything was in her little house/kennel? Maybe there was a bug or something or had a potty accident in it prior. |
We checked it and everything seemed a-ok. She's been voluntarily napping in her house all this morning... |
Very odd! Something was wrong. If only they could talk and tell us. I don't think I can help, but hope you find the answer to the madness. |
They do give doggies sedatives but I don't think one incident would be enough for me. Lucy has nights like that too occasionally; she just doesn't sleep well; and we don't know why. Not very often though. Hope you have a better night tonight! |
Roxie may have had a one time incident. I would wait to see if that kind of thing happens again rather than to medicate her needlessly. It's a good sign in my opinion that she is going into her house by herself and sleeping. Keep us updated on how she is, ok? |
I agree that something must have upset her. Harley had a minor flip out the other night, however no biting. I put him to bed in his room, and turn all the lights out. I was talking to the bf in the dark, and as soon as we said good night and all fell silent Harley growled and barked and howeled! and he maybe barks once a week. It was strange and we have no clue what set off this fit. He however did let me pick him up and stuff. May there was a bug or something that bit her and it got away before you got to her? or something outside really startled her? |
She had what seemed like an ok day yesterday. A few times she jumped up and growled at something I couldn't see, but other than that she was alright. At bedtime she barked for a little while, but then calmed down after 10 minutes or so. I think I may take her bedding out and wash it, just in case there is something in there bothering her that I can't see right now. I would not actually give her Valium after just this one incident...I was joking when I typed that. I was tired and thought I was being funny...sorry! |
I'm glad Harley had a better night! Sometimes they see what we can't and we call it the 'kneeling ant' alert... LOL... But our babies catch up on so many things like changes in the magnetic fields or sounds etc. We also had one time a really hysterical bark frency when 3 of our babies actually got freaked out by a tiny mouse... But they also alerted us when a snake was in our first floor bathroom... |
I did have to give my little Maltese doggie Valium when we moved to a new apartment in a new state. This was years ago - but I remember coming home from my first day at work to a note on my door that Casper had barked the entire time. My old Vet (bless his heart) overnited me some doggie Valium to use for 2-3 days. He was very groggy and I felt bad giving it to him - but it did the trick and it did only take a couple of days. I'm still not sure exactly what he gave him. Lucy had a horrible night last night! My son fell asleep downstairs on the couch and Ringo was with him and Lucy CANNOT STAND IT if everything is not exactly in it's regular place at bedtime. I finally had to put her down off my bed and she got the hint! |
