Yorkie a**s question, caution graphic pics! 2 Attachment(s) Hi All, our Maggie is our special needs baby with a gzillion allergies and we know how to deal with it. The last 3 days she was scooting a lot and I thought she might have an itch due to her allergies and treated it like usual. It didn't seem to get better though and when I gave her a bath today I examined the area around her tail, anus and vagina and noticed that her anus is kinda outwards a little. I never payed a lot of attention to that but now I looked all my other boys and girls under their tails too and they didn't look the same. Maggie is clearly uncomfortable so my questions are if anybody knows something about 'outie' anuses, is it unusual, is it a matter to be concerned of, can a dog have hemrroides and if yes how to treat them? |
I would take her to the vet and have her anal glads looked at...they could need emptied or they could be impacted. |
I agree it could well be her glands, either way take her to the vet if it is bothering her. :) |
I can't really see that it looks abnormal or irritated, but maybe I'm not seeing it right. Is she pooping okay, and does the poo seem normal? Has she had gland issues in the past? Did you change her food/treats at all? If the area is irritated and still bothering her, you might try putting some diaper cream on it, or hydrocortisone cream - as these can soothe the area. |
If it is swollen looking it could just be he glands need emptying or maybe her anus is herniated. Just had Nikki with an abscesses anus but it was a nasty sore on it. Hope Maggie just has an outie! |

Thank you all for your very much welcome input and advice. We'll take Maggie to the vet's first thing tomorrow... |
Bump! How's your dog's anus? Hope she's ok. :) |
Looks like an abccess...very painful..have the vet treat it..best wishes |
How is your baby doing? That looks scary. Are you bathing her enough? Keep us posted. Need to hear a follow-up. |
Update on Maggie's a**s problems... We took Maggie to the vet and he cleaned her anal glands without any problems. Not impacted, no abzess just a 'outie' and some irritation b/c of her scooting. I'm soooo relieved! Maggie went already through so much and the last thing she needs is another complication... She lost another pound too which is really good b/c she also has LP II and LP I. She weighs now 6.9 lbs. and is only .9 lbs from her ideal weight (from chubby 9 lbs....) It's hard to say 'no' to her begging when she actually says 'ma-ma' but we don't want to love her to death...:) http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/my-...gie-talks.html |

That video of Maggie "talking" was frightening in a way. Is there something wrong with her vocal chords? It was sad to hear that. :-(, poor sweetheart. We were elated to hear that her anal glands were not impacted, so what was the problem? |

What shampoo do you use? Are you sure she is not allergic to that? How did you find a good shampoo for her? Does giving her 2 baths a week make her skin dry? I do not have a problem with Freeway, she is so healthy I am so lucky. I would like to find a nice smelling shampoo for her. I have used the one her groomer uses but it seems to smell better after she is groomed there. I bathe her every other week and take her to the groomers every other week. They told me that she may be getting bathed too much and I should change that schedule. They are so good to us at the groomers. :) |
