Dawn liquid made Zoe weak Zoe is an extremely active puppie. She's 9 months old now, 3lbs 14 ounces. Last month after using Dawn, she was inactive the 3 hours before we went to bed. We didn't think anything of it. Yesterday , we did the Dawn treatment and once again she was very inactive. I just thought she didn't like baths. A couple hours later, we went up the stairs to go to bed. Zoe climbed the first 4 stairs and then stopped, she didn't have the energy to climb any farther. She seemed very weak.We were extremely worried. We stayed up with her a few more hours, making sure that she didn't get any worse. After she perked up a little , we thought she would be alright. The next day she was back to her normal active self. We used the Dawn for what we thought was 5 minutes, no clock, it may have been 10 minutes. We rinsed her very good. I am now worried about using Dawn again. Did Zoe absorb the soap into her system ? Has anyone else noticed that their Yorkie being inactive after a Dawn bath ? Zeke is 6 years old and we didn't notice any effect on him.. |

I'm not an expert but sounds like a reaction. Skin is the largest organ on any body and absolutely does absorb things that are applied to it. Normally Dawn is safe, it's used to remove oil from so many living things in the spills, etc... but I would imagine, like anything else, there is always the exception to the rule as far as an allergic reaction. |

Dawn Soap Usually one uses Dawn, only the Blue liquid, for fleas. The Blue Dawn was/is used to get oil off the birds etc in the Gulf Oil Spill and other such disasters. Have to make sure it is only the Blue variety. You can do a YT search on using Blue Dawn for fleas. The fleas arpe supposed to drop right off. Maybe Zoe is very sensitive and another approach is necessary. p.s. I have a Zack, Zeke, Zipp and Zoey, ranging from 3 to 15 yrs old:D. Sorry about the duplicate info, slow on the draw (grin). |
I am using Dawn for killing fleas. The vet recommended Vectra, which didn't work. We used Frontline, not good. We just tried Hearts yesterday for the first time.. My grand daughter has a Yorkie next door, which doesn't get as much flea preventive measures as he should. So we put flea spots on her Yorkie too. We are trying to stay ahead of the fleas. |

Just like some children have reactions to their childhood shots, and even become autistic (imo) most don't...If you are looking for a natural way to get rid of fleas, bathe her in an organic shampoo, and then do a vinegar rinse afterward...To be honest, if she is standing in water, and has fleas, most of them drown anyway...I, certainly, would not bathe her in dawn again...When in doubt, chicken out...Old saying, but I still stand by it lol... |

Btw, I don't use topicals, either...If you treat your yard and home w/a natural flea killing product, your baby shouldn't have fleas...If you see an occasional flea, then use an organic topical that will kill the flea on contact....Check out my website, and on the first page, you can read about wondercide...That's what I use... |

Dawn's ingredients listed on bottle; other ingredients are confidential: water, sodium lauryl sulfate, sodium pareth-23, sulfate C-12-14-16, dimethyl amine oxide, SD alcohol, undeceth-9, propylene glycol, cyclohexandiamine, polyacetate, protease, fragrance, FD&C blue, no phosphate ... Since she seemed to have a neurological reaction to something in it, I would definitely not use it again. |
Using a soap products can be harmful to dogs. You want to stay away from any shampoos that contains sulfates. For killing fees just get a bottle of Best Yest Cedarcide, it kills fleas and moisturizes the skin at the same time. |
Wow Im sorry she had that kind of reaction to it. Ive used it on my yorkies and Ive even used it on a 2 month old kitten and Ive never had any problems. She must be sensitive to it |

Did you use Original or Complete? Hartz may just add to the problem. Very dangerous product. Frontline not working? |

i dont treat my yard and frontline plus works very well for all of my dogs and cats.. however I start treating usually in early April untill the end of Novemeber..since using frontline I havent had any issues with fleas. make sure you wash all of your pets bedding and vaccum.. all of your cracks, crevices, under all furniture and do it often this will help keep the fleas under control in your house. |

You gave her a Dawn bath and used Hartz the same day, right? I'd be more inclined to think the reaction came from the Hartz product. The internet is full of horror stories of dogs getting sick, even dying, from Hartz products. I would NOT use Dawn again if you suspect it is a problem . Also would not use Vectra. . Here is a thread where someone had what they believe is a reaction to Vectra.
