When to advance pup to adult food? We're feeding 7.5 month old Nikko Royal Canin Mini Puppy 33 and he's doing great on it but it's time for a new bag and we're debating if we should advance him to the adult Yorkie formula (we're also open to other suggestions in the same price range) for the next bag. What age do you recommend going from puppy to adult food? |
Sorry, but I'm not much help. I saw your thread & I'm dealing with the same issue. Miloh is 9 months old & is currently on Orijen (a great food) but I'll have to go buy a new bag soon. Don't know whether to get the adult already. |
I believe Royal Canin suggests not transitioning to the adult food until 10 months of age. |
I think it was around 10 months when I switched Bailey to adult. |
I'm switching Harley at the end of the month, he'll be about 10 months. My breeder told me around 8-10 months is a good time to switch. I'm not a big fan of Royal Canin, not sure what it costs in the US, but up here it was royally expensive. I switched to Now! which has much better ingredients and I found that it was actually cheaper to buy. I guess it depends on your stores as well. The store I buy my food from has a loyalty program, so the food itself is better priced plus I get every 11th bag free which is wonderful! If you're open to switching I'd have a look around, you may find something that is much better for your baby, that is cheaper. In my experience going to a specialty shop if there is one around usually gets you better information, the store I buy from was amazing in helping me choose food for Harley, they walked me through the labels of each brand and we picked the one that seemed best for him specifically. Goodluck. |
Thanks for the responses! I think we'll stick with the puppy food a little longer. I'm going to do some price comparisons on food also! |
