Not the usual Newbie here... My baby has the skin irritations on his back; using the medicated shampoo from his vet. Not much change there, even with a bath every 4 days. Now he has dark, reddish 'freckles' on his inner thighs; and under his front legs, next to his chest, he has what looks like dirty spots; like he got into motor oil or something like that, they just won't wash off. Neither of these conditions seem to bother him. There's no itching, no biting, etc. If you didn't look, you'd never know anything was there. There's been no change in his food for the last 6-7 months, and only the medicated shampoo is a new thing. There've been all the usual blood tests, smears under the microscope, etc. ~I'm changing vets really soon~ So...any ideas as to the what, how or remedy? I'm at a loss. |
If your pup has skin problems and your regular vet is not figuring it out quickly, I recommend going to a Vet Dermatologist. They can do all kinds of tests that your regular vet probably cannot do. Hope you get things figured out quickly. |
TY Lisa. That would be in Birmingham, since my tiny town is lucky to even HAVE a Vet~ LOL Excellent suggestion... |
Hi there. Welcome to YT. My mom was born in Sylacauga and my husband went to Auburn (just an aside;)) My big girl had some back irritations too. I switched to yorkie splash and shine ..which has a higher PH and it went away. This was after the vet did skin scratches and tested for scabies, yeast bacteria and other pests. I sure hope you find a solution for your kid. Sometimes it seems skin issues are the hardest to find a cause/solution |
Hi and Welcome to YT!!! The dematologist suggestion is really good. It was an ordeal with our Maggie's allergies that even led to an unnecessary ear surgery until she was seen by a dermatologist to figure out that she has about a gzillion allergies. It sounds strange to me though that your baby is not itchy b/c the skin irritation comes mostly not from the desease but from the biting or scratching. To do something that might help a bit is putting a clean cotton shirt on him every day. I hope you'll find out soon what's going on! Oh... and I know about small town vet's! Our vet here is a butcher and filthy so we drive 30 miles to a better one... |
Thank ya'll for all the replies! I will let you know asap when we get this under control...Janet & MAC~ |
