Sick pup My 4month yorkie has been throwing up everything she eats. I tried to switch her food but she continues to throw up. I am taking her to the vet tomorrow but I am sure she has some kind of parasite. Does anyone know any treatments I can buy her or any home remedies... worried mommy |
At 4 months I would definitely get her into the vet ASAP. Honestly I would not wait until tomorrow, especially if this has been going on for as long as it sounds. I would schedule an emergency visit now. This sounds serious to me. |
A four-month-old who can't hold down any food is in danger. If you have to wait until tomorrow to see the vet, is she under constant supervision? This could go hypoglycemia and/or dehydrate any time now. Food-wise, there is nothing you can give her that will absolutely not make her vomit. You could give Nutrical, but since it can't be balanced with protein now, that could have risks too. There are some drugs that you can get OTC to help her stomach, but I wouldn't recommend any of them without vet supervision. But all that said, she needs to be seen today. |
I agree with the above posters. Your baby really needs to see the vet TODAY, not tomorrow. Dehydration & hypoglycemia are very likely & very dangerous. |
when she throws up she goes right back to her bowl to eat. I've been giving her pedialyte to prevent her from dehydrating. I am at work right now but obviously I am extremely worried. I'll have to leave here early to take her to the vet. |
A lady I know bought from the same litter and her dog's test results came back and he has a parasite called coccidia which effects their intestines. I was reading up on it and it says the common symptom is diarrhea but Fendi is only vomitting. Her poop is fine. |
How old & how big is your baby? Is your baby alone today? Young ones can go downhill so fast when they are sick. I know you are worried as I would be as well. If it were me, I'd have my baby at the vet today. They can give sub-q fluids & begin treatment. |
she is 4 months old and she weighs no more than 3 pounds. She is alone at the moment because I have to work. I will definitely check up on her during my lunch break but being that I work in the social work field it is hard for me to leave early. I'm hoping i get replies about sometype of medication that can hold her down for the night until her morning appt. |
I'm sorry you can't get off of work to take your baby to the vet. I hope you get the answers your looking for but I'm pretty sure the consensus here will be to see the vet & not delay. Have you called your vet & expressed your concerns about coccidia to him? Perhaps he could tell you what to do? |
I have she said that if she isn't holding down her food she doesn't think it's from the parasite. She did state as you all have that I should try to bring her in as soon as possible and recommended me to a 24 hr spot. So I guess that's what I'll do. |

I really hope you get this taken care of. She's still so small... You really need to make sure she's getting enough nutrients. I hope her sugar doesn't crash while you're gone. You mentioned that she's throwing up and then going right back to her food? It sounds to me like she's hungry. That when she eats, she thinks she's taking care of the hunger but then she throws it back it. It's confusing to her little body, so she goes to eat more. I really hope you get Fendi checked out. |
Yes I am going to get her checked out as soon as I can escape my job. I will check up on her during my lunch break. I feel so bad that she has to go through this I just bought her last week. I contemplated taking her back to her original owner but have decided I could not do that this puppy has grown on me and obviously he was not taking very good care of her. I will bring her back to health myself. Just hoping she pulls through |
I hope so, too. Keep us informed. |
I am glad to hear you will be able to take her to an ER vet. Please update us. |
I am picking her up in an hour the vet was kind enough to squeeze Fendi in for a 4pm appointment so I am taking her along with me to work to monitor her until then. |
