Question about little yorkies & chews My Daisy is 2 yrs old and 3.5 lbs. What would you get for a small yorkie to chew on to help keep the tartar away that is safe for a little one. Most of the dental chews say not for dogs under 5 lbs. Thanks for any help you can give me. |
I use CET chews which have an enzyme on them to help retard plaque. They were recommended by my vet. You can buy them online at EntirelyPets Discount Pet meds Pet Supplies & Flea Medicine, they seem to have the lowest prices on them. As with any chew you must supervise your pup when you give them to her and take it away when it gets too small so that she doesn't ingest the whole thing. |
I also meant to say that your Daisy is gorgeous!!:p |
I just recently bought the cet chews, my dogs love them. But as yorkiechick1 said, they can choke and another member here had a very close call with her dog and these chews, so you must watch your dog while giving any kind of treat/chew and take it away when it is small enough for them to choke on. |
Yorkie chews I was using rawhide for Belle until I saw her getting small pieces off it. Now I buy good quality bully sticks and she loves them, carries them everywhere with her. I still keep an eye on her and she only gets them when I'm able to see what she is doing. When they get smaller, they go to her "big brother" our Lab TJ. |
Bully sticks all the way! |
Mine love Bully sticks!!! They come in lots of different sizes and they are thin so easy for small mouths to chew. My Zach has a really small mouth and they are good for him, He's about 4.5 lbs or so. |
Bully sticks work well, but if you really Want to keep her teeth clean, you should brush them. |

Thanks to all of you for the tips. I have heard that Bully sticks smell and cause gas is that true? |
Bully sticks here too. Lucy also likes plain rawhide sticks - about the size of a pencil. I let her chew before she goes to bed (I swear it's like a pacifier) and then take it away. It takes her forever to get anything off. We're going out today to get more bully sticks; though cause we are out. And yes, they STINK! But I think there's a vendor on here that sells ones that don't have all the odor. |
There is a recent thread on bully sticks and the smell and a few yt'ers that sell them if you are interested: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...l-penises.html |
I bought the ones from BaxtersMommy and they didn't smell at all.:) I know someone else on here sells them too.:) |
Tartar Shields I use tartar shields, they are soft chew dental sticks. My vet recommened them and Mocha loves them. They have no odor and are the perfect size. They can be ordered online www.tartarshield.com or through some vet offices. |
